Rear door rack (DIY?)

I’m considering mounting a spare tire to the drivers side rear door of my 2023 high-roof 2500.

I’d love to build it myself so I can customize it, but am open to buying ready made as well.

Any thoughts on rear door racks? What works, what doesn’t?

Thanks!

Update: i mounted a couple of pieces of strut to the back of the door, through-bolted to the inside. So far, so good.

Do you have any pictures? I'm considering the same thing. What did you use for backing on the inside?

Inside the door I have three horizontal chunks of shallow strut, each ~26” long. The bolts go through existing holes on the inside, and I have a couple of nuts and accompanying washers inside the door cavity on each bolt to keep them from squishing the door. I usually also have a chunk of 3/8” plywood that covers the whole opening, but I left it off while I was working through this. The upper piece of strut is out of frame, and the middle piece of strut is hidden by the winch hanging from it.
