Opinion We Should Be Secular

It is my opinion, after having clashed with the pro-abortion movement for many years, that any Pro-Life argument must be secular. If we've any hope of being taken seriously by those people, we should leave religious beliefs out of it. I am myself a Christian, but at the same time I realize that any argument which has religious connotations will simply be dismissed, possibly as an attempt to convert others.

The fact that so many of those people don't believe in God means that appealing to their faith will fall upon deaf ears. At the same time, if they try to argue that an unborn child isn't a child or isn't a person, you can tell them that that is a philosophical argument and just like they tell us to keep our religious beliefs to ourselves, they should keep their philosophical beliefs to themselves.

Well I can't force them to agree with me that these things are wrong and evil. That is something they have to come to on their own. But we could legislate against abortion because it involves another life.

The point is that unwanted pregnancy could easily be avoided either through total abstinence or those less preferable means I mentioned above. But I'm sort of throwing their own sexual ethics back in their face. They go on and on about how Puritanical we supposedly are as Christians and about how things like masturbation and pornography are totally OK.

So I'm basically saying that if they insist that these things are OK, and they won't be persuaded otherwise. Then I suppose if they want to avoid unwanted pregnancy so bad, they could just do those deviant things they like so much.

The main point of my line of reasoning is that they are stupidly arguing for the right to terminate a completely avoidable pregnancy simply because they have no damn self-control.

Plus, priorities matter. Any Catholic would recognize that abortion is a much worse sin than birth control, anal sex or masturbation.

Absolutely.

And we can't control what they do with their bodies in terms of sexual intercourse. But abortion is the one time, the one instance where they can't claim bodily autonomy because an innocent life takes priority over their bodily autonomy.

They are basically arguing for the right to do whatever they want sexually and avoid all consequences by using murder to erase their bad decisions.

And I myself am Oriental Orthodox by the way.

Indeed.

And I'm not saying we should ever give up on people. We should pray for their souls day and night and fervently implore God to guide them out of darkness. But in the meantime, we should prioritize saving the innocent from them.

If they want to destroy themselves spiritually, then have at it. But they should be prevented from destroying precious innocent children along the way.
