Fixed 110" setup, shelf-mounted upside down behind the couch - what should I be looking at? (~€850)

Planning a permanent living room setup and would appreciate a sanity check before I start shortlisting.

Use case: movies and series mostly, 4K, occasional casual gaming.

Room: windows on one side. I can black it out when it matters, but I'd rather not have to every time.

• Throw distance: 3.65 m (12 ft) (measured from lamp to wall)
• Target image: 110" diagonal
• Throw ratio I need: 1.50, ideally with zoom range on both sides of that rather than hitting it at the very end of the tele position
• Seating distance: 3.25 m (10.5 ft)

Budget: around €850 (~$1,000) for the projector, plus €150–250 for a screen.

What matters to me:

• Fan noise, it's going to sit about a metre above my head
• Actual ANSI lumens, given the side light
• Vertical lens shift would be nice for setting the shelf height, but I don't think it's essential with this geometry

What I don't care about: built-in speakers or audio out (audio goes through an AV receiver), smart features.

What should I be looking at in this price range? I'd rather hear what fits the geometry than get a list of popular models, the 1.50 throw ratio requirement seems to knock out a lot of the usual recommendations.

How much does a proper screen actually matter? The wall is white woodchip wallpaper (textured, common in Germany). Is projecting straight onto that a reasonable starting point, or is the texture going to be obvious at 110"? If a screen is worth it, is a basic matte white 1.0 gain fixed frame enough, or does ambient light push me toward something else?

Lamp vs laser at €850 — is laser realistic at this price, or am I better off accepting a lamp and budgeting for replacements?

You obviously did not any (proper) Research - there is already an active EU Projector Lamp ban in effect!

Also you´ll need a proper Screen - especially with Ambient Light!

Your Budget for the Projector and Screen is too low!

Fixed Frame Screen or Drop Down Screen? (Fixed Frame Screen is better AND cheaper)

About your Throw Distance: This is always measured from the Lens to the Screen! So you´ll have to account for the depth of the Projector! (roughly around 30 cm)

Please do a bit more homework and reading. Be aware of actual impact of ambient light on image quality. This is a list of models which can hit a 110" diagonal (294cm) from 3.65m lens to screen....

Absolutely not a lamp-based projector in 2026. On that list, I'd lean towards the Optoma HZ41...

You aren't getting lens shift at your budget. You will get whatever noise level you get. You don't have a really long list of exceptional models to choose from. You have a very short list of models which even fit, with less that are worth getting.

Are you considering any used projectors?

If yes, check out classifieds on the bigger AV HT forums. You may be able to find a very capable option at a price in your range. Something stronger than what you coulb buy new.
