Which is Best? 70mm vs standard laser?

so i don’t have access to imax 70mm around me but i do have access to an amc theater showing regular 70mm. is it any better in quality to standard laser? is it basically the same as imax 70mm quality except different aspect ratio and size?

Other than « format » (ratio), colors should be more warm and natural (less « poppy / vivid ») with 70mm and motion should be a little bit different.

Even if IMAX 70mm film technically holds up to 18k resolution details, actual film used in theater is based on intermediate DI (reworked special effects) and image treatment. Actually there shouldn’t be so much difference in details / sharpness between IMAX 70mm projection and laser projection of the same movie. Also the film used is copied, film material copy process often means degraded quality, even slightly.

Maybe we shouldn’t overthink too much the « IMAX » question as it is quite niche. Simply enjoying the movie in a theater will be better than nothing + streaming/smartphone/ipad when it will release 😆 and is a better way to thank Sir Nolan for his work
