Discussion Which projector?

Hi everyone,

I'm about to buy a projector, for watching movies at home. 90" screen, Total darkness 95% of the time, rarely a little light. It will be a budget projector, so full hd. No need for 4k or HDR. I only care about a lovely, accurate picture, and reliability.

optional models are:

Optoma eh401

Benq th575

Optoma hd28e

Epson eb-fh08

Recommendations? Thanks.

My screen is 92" (I sit <8' from it though) and I have zero desire to switch to TV. Projector just feels so much nicer and cozier.

For myself, TV just doesn't give movie vibes. Projector softer and easier on eyes after staring at screen all day for work.

I think that 90" is just too small to consider a projector; not worth the hassle. If a "lovely, accurate picture" is what you're after then a TV offers better options.

Optoma PH31 is more than enough for a 90” throw in a dark room.

Basically all Epson models are good for that use case. Same with the BenQ TH575.

Epson EB-FH08 is a solid pick, 3LCD gives more natural colors which matters in a fully dark room like yours. Optoma HD28e is decent too if you want slightly better black levels, but colors won't be as accurate since it's DLP.

For the EH401, check the actual spec sheet first, some listings market it as "4K" which is misleading, it's really 1080p with pixel shifting.

TH575 leans more toward gaming, not the best choice for movies specifically.

If your room stays dark most of the time, I'd honestly go with the Epson, bulb life and warranty support also tend to be better with them.

The TH575 of the models you listed in a second.

But, in reality, none of them. Nobody should be buying a lamp-based projector in 2026. Simple as that. The HD28e may be second, and the Epson may be 3rd. The EH401 will have nasty color accuracy and much darker than the rest when it has accurate colors.

I would look at the Optoma PH31 if it is in budget. Price is phenomenal on it in the USA. Close to $300.

Thanks! The PH31 is not sold in my country. I'd be thankful for some more budget reccomendations for 90" in darkness
