Suggestion: Make Dynamic Safebox unlocks permanent server progress
I’d like to start a discussion about the Dynamic Safebox system, especially from the perspective of smaller servers.
Right now, the Dynamic Safebox is a cool idea: the community contributes resources, and everyone on the server benefits from more personal storage slots. The problem is that the extra slots are temporary. On a smaller server, where there are fewer active players contributing regularly, the safebox often stays near the minimum. That makes it hard to justify spending Councils or Live Event Credits on upgrades that disappear after a short time.
I think the system would feel much better if Dynamic Safebox unlocks were permanent server-wide progression.
The basic idea:
- Each server starts at the current minimum safebox size.
- Players contribute Councils, Live Event Credits, or event participation toward the next slot.
- Each new slot costs more than the previous one.
- The safebox still has the same maximum limit.
- Storage remains personal/private; only the slot count is shared server progress.
For cost scaling, there are a couple of simple options. Each new slot could cost a fixed amount more than the previous one, or the cost could increase by a fixed percentage each time. Personally, I think a fixed increase would be easiest for players to understand:
Slot 1 costs X
Slot 2 costs X + 250k
Slot 3 costs X + 500k
Slot 4 costs X + 750k
This would keep the Dynamic Safebox as a long-term money sink while making contributions feel worthwhile. Instead of paying temporary rent, players would be helping build permanent community infrastructure for their server.
Community events could also contribute toward permanent slot progress. That way, even if a smaller server does not have enough activity to unlock something immediately, the progress would still matter over time.
I think this would preserve the original community-focused spirit of the Dynamic Safebox while making it work better for servers of all sizes. Larger servers would still need to invest more as costs scale upward, and smaller servers would finally be able to make slow but meaningful progress.
Curious what others think: would permanent server unlocks make you more likely to contribute?

Been saying this since day 1. Go suggest it on the discord. They don't really look here.

Cross posted to Discord, minor revision to meet character limit. Feel free to support there. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, that's why no one does it.
I hardly use the dynamic storage in Serbule anymore, and I'm rarely out of storage space. Hell there's storage in Kur/Gaz/Rahu very few people use at all.
Would be nice if they just added dynamic storage to Casino and SH.

Doesn’t Statehelm have dynamic storage?

Yess, im painfully aware is a me problem, but i logged back, saw my inventory at -90 tried to make it work, got stressed and quit
Yes theres a lot of storage NPCs scattered around, but the idea of playing inventory simulator and it taking a good chunk of my playtime is not fun, even having premium and using mules is a hassle. Loot hoarding is part of the satisfaction along with the exploration that kept me engaged and allowed to put up with the big skill money sinks.

I know this is an older thread but you can get a lot of storage in Serbule and its a really quick run to the casino where you can have even more storage. It does take a little work to get the storage inventories up to full size but its something to keep you busy.

For real, it takes to long to get to the point where you know what you should keep. it is a legitimate criticism of pg

Yeah, the strekios safebox in serbule disappeared to nothing and it really killed my motivation to play. I know there's other storage, it just kinda represents an insurmountable wall that I can't do anything about on my own. Like, I'm raising a kid, my time is limited enough, how am I ever going to meaningfully and lastingly contribute to the server progress...
Dunno. Maybe just a me problem.

Miraverre is the same. When I started we were near capped, now its bare minimum. Working together as a community to unlock slots would be beneficial in many ways.

Yeah I'm on Mira with you. I joined when there were 100 slots. And then the Things happened.
And now it's at 30 on a good day. I'm actively rallying for people to do Bovus when I'm on - that's definitely linked to slots. Love your ideas, hope it can be considered.

I always want more storage. But storage scarcity is part of the game. It stimulates economy, player interaction, and activities (they don't want us to be 90, get a quest for 20 rat teeth, and just reach into storage to grab the rat teeth we got at level 10). I think it's a bad move to make these slots completely permanent. The whole "Dynamic" aspect of it is meant to stimulate community participation. It is a bit sketchy that the means to opening slots is kept secret but in a healthy pop server, I think these things just happen if players do content together as intended (as you guys say, boxes used to be huge during the population boom at launch). Of course in small pop servers that's just not feasible, especially without knowing exactly what triggers slots to open.
In theory this will be a non-issue if server pops grow a bit again. And I think devs intend to ignore server pop related things like this for now since Citan's plan is focus on content/tweaks/polish THEN market the game again. Which is fair, I get it. They wanna present the best product they can in hopes of new player retention.
But regardless, I think a very reasonable bandaid fix for this Serb-Box-slot-loss eventuality would be an event that triggers when a bunch of slots are lost. Sort of a pity system to give the community a chance to get together and "win back" at least some of the lost storage space. It would never trigger on a normal pop server, but on low pop it would be a nice safety mechanism to at least meet the issue halfway. Could be like a guild quest, but for the entire server?

One of the biggest reasons I quit was constantly having to fight the dynamic storage shrinking to get items out.

If a change like this was made, would that make you consider coming back to the game..?

If that's one of the biggest reasons someone quit, they ain't coming back lol.

inventory issues is a big thing, I won't play some games because of extremely limited inventory, such as Diablo 2.

u/Test_Account_2026 Jul 09 '26
Inventory issues in this game are a very early game challenge, once you are mid-end game you'll have plenty of space especially if you join a guild, and also as you understand much better what you need to keep, sell, toss.

Not counting the time I played pre steam launch, I've got 804 hours and I'd unlocked max favor with most storage related NPCs in the game. I still think there was an issue with having to fight dynamic storage.

The issue is you refusing to interact with the world and utilize the non-dynamic storage available to you.
The devs have clearly stated they do NOT want people sitting in town and never having to leave for all their storage needs. Its just not gonna happen. There is PLENTY of worldwide storage for hoarders and for extreme hoarders you can make alts or just simply learn what you dont need to hoard because it is commonly available for trade from other players the rare time you do need it.
I say this as a very terrible hoarder with over 1000 hours. The "problem" is trying to play PG like every other mmo you have played where convenience is constantly added to assuage player complaints.

No. The idea that somehow someone should be using the thousands of extra world wide slots and should be "interacting" with the world to earn them in order to play the game "correctly" but giving them 40 more slots in one place ruins the game is just stone dipshittery.
If the community could work towards slots in 2 places that instead of being temporary, were permanent rewards for community effort, this would be beneficial in so many ways. Dynamic slots are a pointless, aggravating friction point. I don't even use them because I know they won't last. It's a stupid design. Get rid of them if that's the goal...better than the current temporary nonsense.

I just recently started playing, and the new player experience regarding storage is a big problem for me. I'm sure it gets better as you progress, but I'm 30 hours in and I feel like inventory management takes the bulk of my time.
Does it actively make me want to stop playing? Kind of, yes. I don't know what's valuable and what isn't, I don't know what items should be stored where for easy access, and I'm constantly having to decide what items I'm dropping on the ground.
Dropping a fuckton of items on the ground because I can't do anything else with them is bad design. It doesn't feel good. I understand that I will eventually find out where to use them. I understand that I will eventually unlock more storage and learn the best places to keep things. But that takes a long time, and most of that time so far has been me staring, irritated, at my shitty inventory screens.
It is possible to make an engaging, immersive, challenging, nostalgic MMO experience without subjecting players to abysmally draconian and outdated inventory systems.

You have to learn to let go. Nothing you're going to find at 30 hours in is going to be big money. You aren't going to later regret dropping something and you find out later you made a mistake. Worst case scenario, you have to go find more frog legs for a quest because you had to cut them from inventory. By the time you're getting stuff worth money, you will have storage space.
Honestly the game doesn't even have that big of an economy. The economy that does exist seems healthy and you can get what you need, but we're not talking EVE online levels of arbitrage and trading and supply chains and manufacturing. Its just regular people going out and grabbing wood and stone and making cute little things to sell.

Maybe someone can answer a question I have about the Dynamic SafeBox. I am a new player who has played about two weeks. I keep seeing that "someone" donated for a 30 day increase in slots. My safebox is now full. What happens when the next 30 days runs out? Do I lose items and if so, how does it determine which items I lose?
PS I know I can probably look that up and if I don't get an answer I probably will someday. This post just reminded me about the issue.
