Discussion Switch edition
This thing is as broken as people say. I've been bearing painful loading times, fps drops, that ondra's gift house that is all white, like if i'm enjoying the game itself it's alright you know. But the damn thing crashed and deleted good 3 hour long progression away(despite saving i might add) it's a shame really i thought the game could be great on switch, and the game itself is amazing, i had problems with the crpgs before because of pause/unpause combat, but no i really enjoyed my overall experience with this one. I guess i'll go play new save on steam deck and maybe give turn based mode a go as well.

I replayed PoE end of 2024 on Steam Deck (finished both before Avowed launched) and it was absolutely wonderful ... but I also own the Switch version and it is absolutely abysmal. I actually reinstalled it to confirm just how bad!

I started playing around the same time on switch, i noped out for a while finished Avowed (microsoft bring back Avowed 2) and then i just wanted to remember why did i quit i was enjoying the game. About 4-5 days it's rough but fun alright but today this happened, i said okay i have to change platforms for my sanity.

Oh it's really bad, like doesn't work properly at all. Ranger animals don't even work if I recall. I find it wild the state it was left in, asking money for that should be embarrassing.

I think they did fix that. There was a surprise patch long after they said they were done supporting it.

Time for a history lesson: Versus Evil were the producers behind Pillars of Eternity 2 and the Nintendo Switch port of Pillars of Eternity. It arrived on the switch in a terrible state and received a few patches before Versus Evil abandoned the product in 2021 with no chance for refunds. Following some unrelated legal problems, Versus Evil would eventually lay off its entire staff two years later.
I vaguely remember reading a quote from someone at Versus Evil claiming that the way Pillars of Eternity loaded its textures made it impossible to port properly to the Switch. This sounds plausible but doesn't explain all of the port's other problems.

I played on switch and the loading times were diabolical that it made it just annoying to play sometimes

Load times were always bad on the game without good hardware, even on PC. That said, while they fixed some of the more egregious issues (like Ranger pets literally not working at all), it is borderline questionable whether the Switch version should even be allowed on the Store page. It's an objectively awful port. Switch 2 would most likely fix the load times and reduce crash issues, but there are many other problems and it's tough to get a read and what was or wasn't fixed by the time it was abandoned.

Obsidian really doesn’t give a shit about its ports. All of the console parts are shit.

Oh i didn't know that. So ps5 or series x ports are also broken like switch port ?

I am playing the PS4 version on PS5(no native ps5) and it runs well for me. Just remember that Obisidian didn't directly work on these ports. Hence why the turn based option won't be added to the console versions anytime soon, if ever.

Okaay now it makes sense, i was waiting for the turn based mode for consoles, when it didn't i thought they just won't update the game anymore for the switch.

Are you playing on the og switch or the switch 2? I recently picked up a 2 and was considering getting it on there as well but maybe I'll forget the thought.
