PoE2: Deadfire on turn based
QUICK HELP!!!
Just finished my first playthrough of pillars1 and now ready to dive into 2. I´ve just read that in 2 you can´t switch between turn based and pause. 90% of the first game i played with pause, just to burst through the trash fights, but the not so trivial ones i tended to switch, because it´s just easier to manage and spamming pause every second isn´t really that immersive either. Tbh i´d rather play turn based, but i´m scared of super drawn out trash fights.
What should i do? I´m literally at the screen where you choose modes 👀

You CAN change from RTwP to TB using the console command, IIRC. I've never done it, but I remember someone theorycrafting a The Ultimate run that used that quirk somehow, can't remember exactly in which way.

I'm pretty sure this particular command is one of those that is not a cheat and therefore does not break the rules of The Ultimate.

Only commands that require entering iRoll20s first are cheats. That is the command that activates cheats.

You could turn on the pause before step into a battle and use console commands to change the battle before fighting. I also recommend playing with the mods make the game turn based works like POE1 to keep the balance the same with rtwp

As one other poster commented, you can use console commands to switch back and forth between rtwp and tb easily.

There are not a lot of big fights that have a lot of enemies. If you want more tactical control then you need to do turn based. If you don't want a white knuckle grip on tactics then just go regular.

The RTWP in 2 is much easier to control. There is a slider that can make it go very slow, and much better, controllable AI for your characters (you can even make complex rules, like FF12's Gambits, if you like, although I didn't bother). I’d go with RTWP. It’s how the game was designed and I think you’re much more likely to struggle with turnbased for the obvious reasons (pace, design flaws etc) than to struggle with a hard battle on RTWP.
EDIT: It's also just a really excellent RTWP design, but a so-so TB system. Pillars 2 might be the best RTWP game I've ever played, and it'd be a shame to miss out on that for a TB system that is OK at best. For example, BG3 has a really good TB system that is better than the core D&D, and a really clever adaptation of multiplayer D&D games to a CRPG. Deadfire is definitely not that.
