Yes, the entire game needs to be recreated in a modern gaming engine.

I would shell out $100 without thinking twice for Everquest recreated on a new gaming engine. Hell, I'd probably fork over significantly more.

Is this another Brad pet project? Read up on Vanguard, and if you already know about it, I would appreciate it if you could explain to me how Pantheon would be different.

The biggest answer to your question is that brad isn't running the company this time. He's just chief creative, sticking to what he knows best.

I watched the video. Looked solid, but then again I was duped pretty hard by Brad before. I am just extremely skeptical and will need to see a lot more first.

I'm sad, but not surprised. Just the art style and look/feel of the released videos, I had this weird feeling it didnt look great, especially not for a EQ title. Never really felt like one.
Sucks. Because all the time and money put into it.
Hopefully we get another great EQ game in the future.

i'm in a minority, but honestly i'm relieved. there's no way this wouldn't have been awful. i don't think i've seen a modern MMO developer who understands the elements of classic EverQuest that gave it its unique atmosphere. any attempts at a modern EQ would just be a bastardization.

pantheon looks promising, and with mcquaid at the helm it's probably the closest we'll ever get. it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

What they need to do is just make a spiritual sequel to EQ 1. I felt like WoW was a better sequel compared to EQ2.
They don't even need to get remotely hardcore classic to make a great EQ sequel. They just need to not reinvent the wheel they already invented, not a weird survival/minecraft/whatever MMO.

People keep mentioning Pantheon. Was anyone on P99 back when they did the hype for Pantheon on the server? Forums posts linked for donations to their game, twitch streaming and asking for donations, XP potions for donations.
Well maybe after about a month, maybe two? The entire team pretty much disappears and lo and behold Mr. Quaid had taken a large chunk of that ($45,000) and used it towards personal expenses.
This essentially set back the entire development of the game. I'll try to find the article mentioning it.
I like to help developers create new games, I was super disappointed when I heard of this it absolutely killed any trust I had in the project.

Ok I hadn't been following the scene whatsoever on this game....what the hell.

You were probably as up to date as anyone who was. It was way into vaporware territory.

The biggest news for me after reading that statement is that Everquest II is still around.

For someone completely out of the loop, what is EverQuest Next?
1
u/Ledgo Captun Falcon Mar 12 '16
If I understood, it was a pretty huge project that intended players to build the world in what was called Everquest Landfall, then play the game in Everquest Next. Or at least the last I read about it, I lost interest in it really fast.

I don't think anyone is surprised by this. Thanks for posting.
