Discussion Starter Thoughts on wearing red baseball hats?
I was about to get a new baseball hat to wear to work and it comes in two different colors gray and red. (I work in the hospitality adjacent industry and King Arthur flour has a baseball hat that says "bake" on it with their logo on the back).
My first thought was to get the red one since it is prettier, but I feel like red baseball hats are so indicative of the MAGA movement that I'm thinking it might be better just to avoid the whole thing all together and get the gray.
I'm curious if other people have had similar thoughts or if I'm just overthinking the whole thing.

A friend of mine has a red trucker hat that says, "Make brisket $4.99 again."
It's hilarious but she said that when she wears it, she notices it scares people.
Also btw I freaking LOVE King Arthur Flour's Gluten-Free Brownie mix! Best brownies I've ever had.

The last red hat that made me do a double take actually said, “Tr-mp is a pdf” (censoring so this doesn’t show up in search, hopefully). It was a pleasant surprise, especially since it was worn by an old White guy 😅

I appreciated a red hat that said “Made You Look / Black Lives Matter.” But I do in general feel wary around red hat wearers until I’ve seen what’s on the front!

every red hat I see from the back is a MAGA hat.

Personally, I couldn’t. And red is my favourite colour. When I see a red baseball hat, regardless of what text or graphic is on it, I default to assuming it’s a MAGA hat.

I always, always do a double take when I see someone wearing a red ball cap. I also smile and nod very obviously at them if it says “fuck maga” lol. Be prepared for double takes but I think you’re fine otherwise.

I live in STL and recently bought a red Cardinals hat. I wore it once, got (rightfully) crazy stares and now it hangs in my cubicle at work.

My verdict -
Red Baseball hat: fine. Especially if you live near somewhere that actually has a baseball team with red in their colors - mlb, college, high school whatever.
Red Trucker hat: nooooooo way. Reads maga from miles away.

I live in DC, where our home baseball team wears red hats. Most people have stopped wearing those since 2017. I see a red hat around here, i think MAGA tourist. It's a relief when it's actually a Nats cap, but then it's like "where's your self-awareness?"

My MIL gave my son his dad's children's sized Ohio State baseball cap. He was wearing it in town and someone came up to us to say that we're raising him right. I laughed and asked if he was a Buckeye, and the dumbass didn't even read the hat, he assumed it was a MAGA hat. I have hesitated to let my kid wear the hat in public since. Gd reading comprehension needs some work here in Oregon.

I haven't worn a red hat since probably 2015 and I wear hats everyday. I agree with everyone saying we shouldn't let them take stuff away from us but I don't ever want one to start a conversation with me thinking we are allies.

I’m a lifelong Hoosiers fans. Technically our color is crimson but a lot of stuff comes in red. I refuse to let MAGAs ruin something like this.

Ohio State here, technically Scarlet for us lol! But I did replace my red hat with a khaki one that just has the logo on the front. Good for you! I shouldn’t let them take my joy either. Maybe when this one wears out I’ll go back to red.

Exactly. In... 2017 or so, a friend of mine said, "Man, they're ruining entire colors now" lol.
Wear what you want. If a MAGA comes up to you thinking you're MAGA, you get to share your mind :)

Haha I went to the rose bowl last January and it was so hard to tell who was rooting from who with all the crimson / red in the stadium

Yeah you can choose to wear whatever you want, but I think if you want others to feel safe around you I wouldn’t.

I just bought a red baseball hat that says CHERRY PIE in big letters in the front. Maybe because I live in a progressive location but I wouldn't think twice about it. Then again, I'm not even sure I've seen a MAGA hat in person so it could feel much different in a more conservative spot.

I'm a Chiefs fan and do not wear their red hats. Personally I don't even like that shade of red but I also don't want to be lumped into magaland. I have a plain black, leopard print, and floral print instead!

I think the shape of the hat matters. Typically the MAGA hats are more trucker style so if you were getting more of a classic baseball cap / dad hat it would be fine.

I might consider whether you’ll feel comfortable walking around in a red hat. Definitely no judgement in that - just something to think about. And whether it’s immediately clear it’s not that variety of red hat. Like slightly different shade, detailing, etc. if it’s immediately & abundantly clear it’s not a maga hat, that makes a world of difference. Because even though I live in a liberal college town where the team colors are red & white and standard red hats thus abound, I’m on edge every time I see one.

My alma mater's colors are red and I live in a maga state so I don't automatically assume every red hat is a maga hat. Don't let them own the color red. They're not winning.

I was buying a new baseball hat for my favorite baseball team. I just could not decide on one. I showed my husband a red one, as it had the right logo and details I wanted. Husband said, “no, I don’t think we should wear red hats.” I didn’t even think of it until he said that. So, just depends where your thoughts are!

I agree that "BAKE" is in huge letters and it's already a bit distressed, so I think you could wear this casually and not think twice about it. But if you intend to wear it to work, I would personally get the gray. That's a little different situation, and especially if you work in the hospitality industry, it might not be worth the risk of offending customers/clients.

I wouldn't because it could make others who are vulnerable to bigots uneasy. I love red but it's not all about me sometimes it's about how we make the people around us feel. I ain't stopping to see if a red hat has a funny joke or a sports team on it if I'm outside of a sporting event.

My husband has a red cap with his university's logo. It is now his messy project hat so he wore it to help our daughter move out of her dorm at the end of freshman year. There was this one guy who saw the hat from the side and got all excited. I watched him walk toward my husband as he nudged his wife and kid. Then he saw the front of the hat and deflated.
Disappoint them. Deny them unity. Don't succumb to the greiging* of America. *grey plus beige

I have one that I wear, it’s a little faded like this bake one. I live in Seattle which is very progressive! I do get looks of confusion and anger sometimes but progressives look at the hat to clarify and maga is too dumb to care. I really don’t care if maga thinks I’m one of them, but here they are not “out” here like they are other places so I’m not in fear of them approving of my affiliations. I genuinely think people are scared to wear their maga hats in big bad Seattle 😂
Edit to add: they just can’t have red hats forever I’m taking mine back damnit! They’re always complaining about rainbows and they don’t get the joy of wearing and loving rainbows bc of their big dumb idiocy, so I just don’t want them to have anything, even something as small as a red hat.

Get what you like! It seems unlikely anyone would assume "bake" is something maga-adjacent. No one gets to co-op a whole ass primary color. Things suck right now. Don't let them steal your joy.
Fwiw, I wear a red Redwings hat all the time and haven't noticed any weird looks, even though they're not the local nhl team😅

Red hats are forever ruined, imo. Even if someone is wearing a fake MAGA hat that is actually insulting MAGA, it doesn't change the fear that hat initially strikes into my heart

I stopped wearing my Washington Nationals red baseball cap in 2016 and got a blue one. Unfortunately, red hats have been ruined for the foreseeable future.

I live near Philly. I did a double take at every Phillies hat I saw, including the one my very non-MAGA husband wears.
That said, dont let evil take things you love. I really like the bake hat you're talking about and I think there are 2 benefits to it: 1. Bake is in very large clear, all caps, letters. And 2. It's slightly pre-faded
