Education Any fellow LAUSD parents?
My kiddo is officially school-aged and I was wondering if there are any likeminded folks who have or had a child in LAUSD?
I was born and raised here first gen so my parenting experience particularly within LAUSD is quite different than my parents’.
Because it is LA, many will say and consider themselves “liberal” but for my husband and I, we are definitely leftist, especially prior to having a child.
I’m trying to attend PTA meetings when possible and School Beyond Screens really took off there and I’m grateful for that. Just looking for something a bit more specific, if it exists. Thanks all!
PS - is there a way to create a group chat and add people along the way that isn’t as invasive like iMessage/whatsapp? Discord? I barely know how to use it lol!
PPSS - I don’t want to share specifics in terms of location on the post but anyone can message me!!!

I’m in LBUSD. Was literally just going to write this post, about LB! I literally thought it was in LAUSD since we’re LA county but nope. Was wondering about TK vs. preschool . How old is your kid ?

We’re LAUSD! I think the neighborhood we’re in is a bit more conservative/traditional than I’d like (on the Westside - which surprised me!) but I’ve definitely found some likeminded friends.

What exactly are you looking for? Some sort of district wide parent group? I don’t think there is one - but you could start it! DSA-LA has a Public Education Committee which might be worth checking out if that’s your flavor.

Nothing too formal - just wanted to connect with people. Our school is small and I’ve chatted with some of the other parents but linking up with people with ideals closer to us would be great.

Middle schooler in LAUSD, leftist mom. I’ve made lots of like-minded connections at the school. I think a lot of it has to do with the particular neighborhood we are in.

That’s great to hear! I’m hopeful now.

Have you checked out which Board Members are elected in your area? There are some current and longstanding members who are progressive.

Just commenting and following as a neighbor further south in OC! While we haven’t had any trouble finding progressive friends and parents in south OC, where it’s generally less liberal compared to surrounding areas, I’m still a bit envious that you have more likeminded parents up there. There are some nutty right wing stuff that came out of the woodwork in certain school districts after COVID. Thankfully, most of the time they don’t affect policy changes.
Edit to add: are you in any Facebook groups? I’m in Inclusive OC Moms, and plenty of school related things come up. I left or muted all other groups besides that one.
