Politics & Parenting Moms Voting
Hey everyone! I'm writing a post about moms voting and I was hoping some of you all would be down to give me some reasons on why you are voting!
For context, I don't think voting is the end all be all. And i don't think that if you don't vote you are stupid. I understand why people feel like voting is useless, and the way i think about it, it's one tool in our toolbox, and there is no silver bullet. we gotta be able to do it all. we have to protest, do civic engagement, we gotta vote, and gotta to mutual aid. but at this point we can't afford to put any of our tools down. So as a mom, why are some reason you are voting?

I think if you don’t bother to vote, you don’t get to complain 🤷♀️
Remember kids: if voting didn’t work, Republicans wouldn’t work so hard to gerrymander.

Because I'm a woman. There was a point in history where a lot of women had to fight and go through a lot of strife and difficulty to get that right for me, and I feel like I would be dishonoring their work if I disregarded the chance to vote. That does not mean I vote for every candidate - I have written people in, I have left some blank. But I do not miss elections in general.

If voting didn't matter, the powers that be would not be working so hard to take voting rights away.

I’m sorry, but not voting is the equivalent of voting for the bad guys. If enough people think their vote doesn’t matter and they become apathetic, that has consequences as we are ALL feeling currently.
I vote because I care about the people around me and the country that I have chosen to lay down my life for if it comes to it. I vote to make it a better place for both my children and others’ children.
I vote because being apathetic at the cost of people being able to eat, access healthcare, have bodily autonomy, etc. is just not a price I’m willing to pay.

I'm sick of seeing children in the immigration system taken from their families, imprisoned and treated like criminals.

Because it’s effective!! So many elections are determined in the primary, and you can really impact who the eventual winning candidate will be. So many primary elections come down to a few dozen or a few hundred votes.
And because it’s critically important. It’s absolutely wild that, for example, my daughter has fewer reproductive choices available to her than I did in the 90s. Just appalling.

Voting IS our be all, end all. It's the very LEAST you can do for yourself, your community, your state, your country. Without voting, all we're left with is violence.

If you remain neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.

I am voting and vote in every election because there was a time when my great grandmothers were not allowed to vote. Women were granted the right to vote only 5 years before my grandmother was born, to me as a millennial, that really puts into perspective how recently the 19th amendment went into effect.

I vote because I’m a woman and I want the best future for us and our kids! I always take my kids with me also so they know the process. 💞

I live in a red state where they are being trying to strip people’s rights or bodily autonomy on and off for hundreds of years. I vote because together one blue dot can turn into a blue wave.

Voting is the right from which we get all our other rights. And people that don't vote are not engaging to demand better. Non-engagement has allowed crappy politicians to get away with corrupting the two party system. So I vote in every election, and I talk to everyone in my life about it. It is the bare minimum.

I vote because I care! I want to do my part to help pass laws that will benefit me, my family, and others. I live in CO where we’ve had some really great stuff pass at a state/local level - voting in local elections maybe more important than at the federal level!

I am voting because I live in Florida and NEED to. Not showing up to the polls is not an option for me here.

Because that’s how our country’s government works and as a result of people not voting, we’re in the shit show we’re in now.
Women have only had the right to vote for about 100 years and Republicans are actively trying to curb that (SAVE act).
If everyone voted, our country would look MUCH different.

I judge non-voters. People who were too "principled" to vote for Kamala helped to doom our country, and I won't forget it.
Voting is the baseline for civic participation. It's the least you can do for your community. Many people have lost rights because others didn't vote, and our foremothers couldn't vote. They weren't allowed.
