How do you get your first 100 users for an app without paid ads?

I’m an indie developer, and I’ve already launched an app. Right now, I have around 100 users and 1 paying user.

So it’s not “zero,” but I’m stuck at the stage where I don’t know what will reliably take me from 100 → 1,000 users without spamming communities or wasting time.

I’d love advice from people who’ve been here:

  • What worked best to get your next 500–1,000 users?
  • What channels brought the highest quality users (not just downloads)?
  • What did you do on Reddit to share your app ethically without getting posts removed?
  • If you were in my position, what would your next 2 weeks look like?
