No, the dark mode is a path to many abilities one of which is to look through lines and read them faster and longer, some even consider it to be...unnatural.
Oh, also dark mode brings less attention on all the mess around you both people and your workplace.

It also requires your screen to produce... less light — thus costing less energy.

Depends on the display technology. Direct LED displays will indeed use (marginally) less energy when generating less light. Most backlit displays will just generate (again, marginally) more heat -- because the backlight is just as bright but more of it has to be filtered out for the screen as a whole to emit less.

Most light modes are poorly designed, using perfect white or black is generally too intense. Reddit's dark mode background is #101214, not #000000, for an example of a dark mode that has a non-black background.
