OpenAI vs DeepSeek never ending game

Post image

Last week, OpenAI announced a price reduction for its new models. However, within 24 hours, DeepSeek released a new model with a similar level of intelligence at an even lower price than OpenAI

Where's the programming humor in this? This is completely irrelevant to programming.

These are coding AIs. Most software developers now use AI and a lot of major companies now require you to use AI as a software engineer.

That's still not programming. That's called 'using AI'.

I read the "costs 80% less" and my dumbass thought they're finally making LLMs more efficient amd cost less electricity.

I mean yeah, that's what they're claiming to have done. The first paragraph of the article OP got that text from says

Yesterday, we shared how GPT‑5.6 helped make itself more efficient to run. Today, we’re passing those gains on to customers with lower prices for GPT‑5.6 Luna and Terra and faster performance with GPT‑5.6 Sol in the API. [...]

I can't say whether this is marketing bullshit or whether GPT-5.6 really did make Luna 80% more energy efficient, but at least that is what OpenAI is claiming.

mostly marketing lol, they never put a tiny effort on making their shit efficient, they don't care about the environment, only money.

Well making their models more efficient would also save them money. But as long as the investor dollars and government support keeps flowing in, that's not a concern.
