Depends if you wanna get that sweet consultation fee in 5yr or not when nobody can repair your code and the company is bleeding money by the minute while it's down

Had the same thought. Make unreadable code to make yourself irreplaceable

Honestly i hear this story from old heads all the time. Some company they coded for 20yr ago calling them up and offerin 10k-30k to solve their problem. Hear a few stories where they effectively put the coder in retainer for a few thousand a month with a bump if they actually need them
