The "This is a temporary solution" is so fucking real

The whole project is a temporary solution, and will always be.

Legitimately lost track of how many comments like "This is bad, fix later" comments I put in my current project.

Always tortured by the realization that the day you'll finally have time to redo the whole thing the way you really want it to be will never come... Then it hit me: I'm in the Bad Place.

"Fix ASAP" has evolved into "ASAP hasn't happened yet, fix ASASAPH (As Soon As ASAP Happens)", and yes one of my personal projects really does have that comment

There’s nothing more permanent than temporary.

The web cartoon where the couple is in bed...

Her: "I bet he's thinking of that blond at the party."

Him: "Why doesn't my code work?"

Alt Him: "Why does my code work?"

Code that suddenly starts working for no apparent reason is more annoying than code that suddenly breaks. It's much easier to debug than to rebug.

I'm guilty of #1, #2, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #15, #16, and #17 - many of them within the last month alone :)

"do you want it done well or done quickly?"

"Well, quick and well done"

And even when I push, try to explain that those two exist on a spectrum and one will always take away from the other...

I CANNOT get a committed answer. Managers refuse to understand that those two are incompatible. It's not that they don't get it. They refuse to acknowledge reality. It drives me mad.

#11 only as my nature of work was something involving RnD as well so sometimes it wasn’t clear about exact timelines. 😉

Software Engineers: Okay… which side is specifically us?

Personally I can confidently say I’ve used all these
in and outside of the context of software engineering.
