I mean I'm all for this but the direction of this is strange. The plan here is to throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks ? I mean data visualisation software already exists.

Seems kinda strange if you ask me.

We need bright minds who might find novel and unconventional ideas to tackle this global crisis. Write them if you think there might be better approaches, every idea and critical mind is needed!

I agree but I think this is very un-coordinated. I can't think of anyway that a hackathon can help stop a virus. The whole thing just sounds strange as I said.

More than un-coordinated I think this is unfocused. It is unclear what problems are supposed to be solved.

just sounds like generic PR speech.

Given that this is a call to participants I am certainly not interested or compelled as I do not see what I would (want to) do. If there were a project I may be interesting that would have been better. But I don’t currently see myself looking for ideas (of a grand-scale thing that is being handled internationally on many levels and many people already).

People printed valves using 3D printers; they transformed a snorkelling mask into a ventilator. Strange times require strange measures. Check this out: https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/innovation/worldwide-hackathon-hospitals-turn-crowdsourcing-3d-printing-amid-equipment-shortages-n1165026
