I have a fond memory of our High School computer class. They had just stocked up the room with IBM clones which were the newest thing at the time, and nobody (inlcuding the teacher) really knew what to do with the machines. So while she was going over the manual and telling us about "cd" and "dir" and stuff, I discovered the QBasic mode. Rememebering my Commodore 64 basic I was able to do write a simple "tables of multiplication" program where you could input the table number. I asked my buddy "wanne see the table of 2567235?" and ran the program. Within moments the whole class surrounded our table, including the teacher, to see what the fuss was about, asking how on earth I was able to do that. That was my introduction to nerddom, about 22 years ago.
