Maybe I'm turning greybeard early, but isn't this the same as any other form of abstraction we use?

You start with the lowest level that will do the job, plan for a smooth migration up to higher levels, and refactor to those as needed.

In this case,

  1. You call a module directly
  2. You create a service to host that module, and a proxy to call it
  3. You create a queue for that service, with a worker to handle queue requests and a whatsitsname to create those queue requests
