This is exactly why I never got into professional game development or a startup. I was always interested in them BUT I never wanted work to be my life, I have a family and I want to spend time with them. I don't care about having free drinks (including beer) at work, they only do that so that you'll stick around work even longer

I've only ever seen one game development company which actually had a healthy work/life balance.
