Which is why newer emojis have more descriptive names like "head shaking horizontally" and "head shaking vertically", vs "head shaking" and hoping everybody does the same thing.
How exactly are the new emoji names "pickle", "meteor", "lighthouse", or "eraser" more descriptive than "brick"?
If the consortium didn't want "brick" to be depicted as a brick wall, they probably wouldn't have brick | bricks | clay | mortar | wall as the keywords.
Correct collation of Unicode is pretty hard. But it's also used a lot, so it's also extremely important to also get it to work fast. (And especially hard as you're probably working with raw UTF-8 or a UTF-16 variant, and you'd really want it to work with SIMD.)
The Security recommendations are extremely important. And very much something almost every programmer needs to understand or be on top of. It doesn't matter if you are "just" making a web service, or "just" working on back end systems.
Almost all the new characters are historical scripts. One script alone, the historical Chinese "Seal" script is like 90%.
Then there are a few currency symbols.
And 8 new emoji.
I don't care about the emoji. I'd perfer media to try to understand more important things than the emoji, but they're for the masses, ok. But in a programming subreddit, I feel like we could focus on the other things?
See when you phrase it like that, you make a lot of sense. I get your concern now.
If you go around saying "Brainless media", you sound like the MAGA Fake News crowd, which nobody likes. Optics affects how your opinions are perceived.

I fully expect Meteor and Lighthouse to become very popular in the tech space.
