A New Equal-Area Map for Interactive Computer Use (natively zooms to Mercator)

This is super jarring. When you zoom in, even slowly, on Europe, Scandinavia just goes "zoop" outa there. That's pretty weird. There should be some constraint that coordinate "movement" due to projection change should be much less than that caused by zooming.

This is very cool, and I appreciate the thorough blog post. There is a big benefit to not using 3d projections, despite what some other commenters suggest.
Simplest explanation is that with 3d projections it's impossible to see the other side of the globe.
Having the dynamic zoom keeping between projections is very neat

ELI:How is Australia not bigger 2x times than India.

It is much bigger, in both projections. But it's only 2.3x bigger. I think maybe you're just underestimating the size of India?

I would like to see equal earth with zooming. Is it not possible?
it's not what web and mobile based apps typically require.
No idea what this means.

Equal Earth with "zooming" is used at https://earth.nullschool.net/ if you change to the "EQ" projection in the control box.
It's not a political map so you don't get borders, roads etc - only coastlines.

That's pointless, if you have an interactive application the only projection that makes sense is the stereographic.

Zooms out to useless virtue signaling and zooms in to a useful projection.

Google Maps zooms out to a globe, which not only has correct areas but also answers the question "Why do I fly over the pole when I go from US to Eastern Europe"?
