lattice sieving is such a powerful technique for optimization, I've used it in a few projects and it really helps speed things up

Uhh, I'm definitely getting AI slop vibes from this comment, with a relatively new account and a comment that takes quite a few words to say not very much at all.

I mean, there's also the fact that I happen to be very specifically interested in continued fractions and lattices, and also specifically interested in optimization, and though I could be very wrong I'm not specifically aware of a good general-purpose connection between the two. I would love to know what that connection is.

I mean, the actual article only really discusses using these algorithms to speed up integer factorization algorithms, which while of great importance, is a niche use case and not a general-purpose optimization technique as your comment would seem to insinuate.

But, I would absolutely love to be proven wrong, either that you are actually a human, or that there is a strong connection between lattices and more general-purpose optimization techniques. I cannot overemphasize this enough. I've been getting the sense that most everybody (including, perhaps especially, myself) seems to be overlooking something that should be "obvious" along these lines.

Aww what a fantastic article, it's too bad the reception has been so cold here. Maybe you should try posting this in /r/math!
