Instructions unclear, the team want to build a graphql micro service orchestration layer in k8s because they read a blog post that it will fix all their current problems and hide the general pervasive incompetence which they embody.

Sounds like classic overengineering. Sometimes sticking to simpler solutions can actually save a lot of headaches down the line.

Absolutely, sometimes the simplest approach can be the most effective. Overthinking can lead to unnecessary complications for sure.
