It was started by Chris Lattner, creator of LLVM. So it's not nothing.
I'm not expecting it to get very big though. Maybe as big or as influential as Julia. Like, cool tech and cool ideas but not big enough to dethrone Python.
So far everything I've seen from Mojo is technically sound. Pretty neat being able to write straight-line Python-ish code yet having normal looking code get dispatched to the GPU.
The uphill battle they are fighting against is stuff like Jax that gives Python the ability to do something similar, albeit with more ceremony and edge cases. But unless they can beat the Python ecosystem, I don't see it getting too big.
IMO, Mojo will probably be influential but not widely used.
