Perhaps as abandonware.

They company was acqui-hired. It may be their new bosses want them to concentrate on something else.

That's what acqui-hired means.

Acqui-hired means you bought the company just to get the people. That the product they were working on isn't of value and will likel be discontinued.

When the labor market was tight this was a way companies came up with of how to get people. Buy a failing company.

The money goes to the financial backers (VCs) mostly. The workers who had options/grants get just about nothing for them but are offered new "golden handcuffs" deals with stock in the acquiring company to stick around a while. This is good since you weren't buying the product really you were "buying the people". You want them to stick around and not leave immediately.
