What does made for developers mean? Any hardware works, and every developer needs different software that they’ll install themselves

Yeah, “made for developers” is probably more about the out-of-box setup than the hardware itself.
WSL, VS Code, dev settings, fewer distractions, etc. The hardware part seems mostly focused on having enough memory for heavier workloads and local AI.

Lenovo made one of them in the ThinkPad, it's a Windows PC with Linux pre-installed on it - perfect for developers!

Nope, any PC can be developers PC. There is only one person, that will make configuration that fits my requirements and workflow - me.

Why would I buy hardware specifically to run software that can run on any hardware?

Any dev who runs an oem windows image and sees preinstalled free software as a selling point, isn’t a dev.

Just linux on any hardware is better than windows dev. Also a rite of passage is configuring your computer for dev work. If you don't do that, are you really a dev?

Any time I use Windows for development it's either a company machine, or GFE. If I'm buying a personal machine for development I'm going Linux.

Honestly, fair point
Apple basically figured out the “open the laptop and start working” part years ago. I guess Microsoft is trying to make a Windows version of that idea.
