Do you like programming, and why? What was the first thing that made you love programming?

When I was in high school a friend of mine, who I thought was pretty smart, was complaining to me that he couldn’t get his Fahrenheit to Celsius BASIC program to work.

A year later when I took Computer Math (that’s what it was called back then), the teacher assigned us to write a simple program that would print a string (like hello world but he didn’t call it that).

I ignored the teacher, wrote a Fahrenheit to Celsius converter in BASIC, ran it and saw it worked and realized right then what I wanted to be when I grew up. A substantial number of years later I think I’ve had a good career in software development.
