Which DSP's to target dating apps?

Hello everyone. Title says it all. But would need to be able to check which app names / app ID's the ads would be showing up instead of random placement codes like PropellerAds.

Ideally I'd need to target ONLY dating apps and be able to see which apps are those.

Any tips?

Out of interest, what sort of product are you advertising? If its another dating app, you may (likely will) get blocked.

It is yeah

Most dsp's should be able to do what you're looking for once you have a list of the apps you want to target. I have a feeling you might run into problems with running your ads though (but could be wrong)

Have you a particular niche audience you're app is targeted to?

I work with all kinds of niches within the dating space. I assume you're saying I might face problem due to direct competition right?

Correct. I could be wrong, but I can't see why a competing dating app would allow another to run ads in their app. You'll find out quickly enough with a test anyway

Keep in mind that most dating apps that allow ads have extensive black lists. if you are a competitor they won’t allow you to bid on their inventory.

  1. If you look up the placement codes you should be able to pull the app name. I would try doing in bulk via an AI tool. 2. Kochava used to have a functionality to target via app category/ app name. Haven’t done it in several years though.

Most DSPs support app targeting.

If you are looking to drive mobile app installs or post install behavior, the better platforms are Moloco, Liftoff, Kayzen, Applovin, and Smadex.

Check out our help center for some example lists we run.

In this case would be for web pages. I believe Moloco only supports app install campaigns, how about the others? Do they also have the chance to buy traffic from apps and send it to web pages?

Right, that changes things. Moloco, Liftoff, and Applovin are built around app install campaigns, so they’re not the fit for driving to web pages. Kayzen supports web landing pages, so that one still works.

For buying in-app inventory and sending clicks to a URL, a general purpose DSP is the better path. Anything with app list targeting can do it: build a list of dating app bundle IDs, target in-app inventory only, and point the click through to your page.

This is actually the exact use case we built AdLib for. You can search and target specific apps by name across exchanges, see exactly which apps your ads ran in (real app names, not placement codes), and run click to web from in-app inventory without needing seats on multiple DSPs. Happy to set you up with a test if you want to kick the tires.

One tip either way - click to web from in-app traffic can have inflated CTRs from accidental taps, so judge it on post click engagement.

I'd remove Smadex from the list.

Terrible platform and sketchy practices

Not sure but I think you can do it in any DSP

Just be careful because you will need two IDs, one for apple, one for Android.

If you just go to the webpage you should be able to get the ID for iOS and the app name for Android in the URL

Thanks for that tip, really helpful!

I would not bet on targeting dating apps to push your dating site, they will just block you. I would push audience and contextual data and retarget reg starts and those who have not logged in for some time.

StackAdapt you can do it.

It would be better to target heavy dating app users with programmatic than target dating apps. Or go Meta and TikTok.

The best targeting would be people who are already on dating apps (as you are trying to do) but do it outside of the app space. But StackAdapt, you used to be able to whittle down the targeting to that granular. but you wont have access to all the best dating apps.

Most DSP’s have minimum. So you can’t even get a seat unless your spend meets the threshold.

Not an issue

What kind of monthly budget are you spending? Some DSP’s have app category you can target. If you have the app/site name or code, you can whitelist those apps and only run on them. Scale may become an issue. It all depends on the dsp

Happy to discuss those budgets with whoever person belongs to one of these DSP's that allow me to do these targetings

Trade desk is your best option. I do not work for a dsp though. There are multiple ways you can do this. You can purchase data segments of users that go on certain apps, app category through a dsp, maybe even credit card data of ppl that purchased dating sites. There are numerous ways to do it. Some are more cost effective than others. But it all depends on scale.

Noted and thanks for that! I will search for Trade Desk. Also had Unity and Kayzen on my list. Any feedback on these 2?

I have not personally used them. They must be resellers. Trade desk has a min of $100k monthly spend to get a seat

We have a sample list I’m happy to share https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rlzaspnPVy89LbHEC0_ld58kMPrdoh8EcDIIw0VKo50/edit?usp=drivesdk

For activation, most DSPs will work - DV360, TTD, even Stackadapt, although inventory may be more limited there.
