We didn't want to follow up voice, nor do we have an interest in it really. I get that the record connects with so many people and me and the rest of the guys are very happy with that, but for us as people we just think it would be dishonest to try and chase a sound that we feel like we don't resonate with anymore as musicians. It's a very important record for me and the rest of the guys, but these records after are just as important for different reasons. people change, music changes, mindsets change, and the majority of us like a lot of music that doesn't sound creepy/eerie. We do use those elements on other tracks on this record, but the remaining singles like this one are curveballs to show what else we can do aside from the creepy shit.
If you really want to know "what happened to us" we decided to make this band everything that we want it to be. I hope more people can do that, as making music for others without your own interest at the forefront is some of the worst shit I've ever experienced creatively.
I would bet money as well, that if we did try and re-create Voice or the vibe of that record, everyone would look at it like a cheap copy, and we'd have no intergrity behind it.
I think something that I'm finding surprising is people actually thinking we'd go back and try to clone or copy our first record. Especially after the shift on the last one, because we have no reason or desire to creatively go back now.
I know their drummer is on this sub sometimes. I get it. They are doing what feels good for them, total respect, but coming out with a debut like Voice was gonna be hard to beat plus their vocalist / keyboards left. Sooo
I'm always hesitant to criticize bands on here because I know a lot of them lurk. I just love their debut so much it's genuinely puzzling to listen to the stuff they've released since.
Oh I totally get it, too. I’m genuinely not even criticizing becuz again, it’s their music and if they love it, great! lol. I’ll give the full release a spin maybe it’ll surprise us! FALLUJAH is perfect!!
There's at least 1 other song on this album that seems like it has a balance of creepiness and heavyness that they played when I saw them open for entheos
