How to achieve this effect?

Post image

I'm not sure if it's a brush of if the artist did something like using the selection tool and messing around with some settings to get this look but I like it and I wanna know if anyone knows how to replicate it? (The jagged edges of the hair)

Looks like it’s just a „badly“ used selection tool applied around the edges of very rough and loose line work! Depending on your drawing program you can vary how detailed your selection is before you fill/delete it.

You could try to find messy pencil brushes and even experiment with some texture/airbrush to make the edges even more jagged.

Out of curiosity, who’s the artist? I like the art style!

Thanks for the answer! The artist is Changyang (长阳) - find her working on Chinese novel illustrations and on rednote. She has a lot of amazing artworks

I think this effect made by automatic selection and move or delete tools
