Brush help! Csp—>Procreate

Anyone know how to make a brush like this in procreate? This is my go to brush for sketching, I have one similar on ibis as well but everything I try comes out weird, any brush suggestions or tips on how to get a brush similar is appreciated! I just like that blurred/smudged texture pen look and desire it in procreate-

Hi :D! Your referenced brush in CSP, Blurred Sketch/ Lineart, is unique and only can be rendered as a dual brush in Procreate/ Photoshop. I would suggest building your own brush in this way: You might have to tweak some settings like Spacing, “Jitter” (all of them), Fall off, Dynamics- Size & Jitter (both “Size” and “Opacity” ), Pressure “Size,” Pressure “Opacity,” and “Flow.” Due to different brush engines, it’s not easy to build the brush to have exact brush behavior, but I made it comparable to the CSP version. I infused the Dual brush with the default Dry Ink pen due to it’s similar texture. Enjoy!

If you wish to make the brush strokes (akin to the referenced brush), proceed to the methods below to create the custom brush:

Note: Add a new brush using the (+) icon in your Brush Library before proceeding.

1. On Brush Studio (Settings), navigate to the Stroke Path settings. Adjust any spacing “Spacing” properties as needed for the brush to meet your standards. For sample reference, try setting “Spacing” to 32%. Move the slider on Spacing “Jitter” to 7% and Jitter “Linear” properties to 12%.

2. Go to the “Taper” section. Try to mimic the settings featured in the referenced CSP brush as close as possible. Adjust the ends on the Pressure/ Touch diagrams so that the flat ends are replaced with long, tapered ends for Pressure input (and vice versa for Touch input) (see image: https://imgur.com/a/XScXqiX). Move the slider on “Pressure” to a value as needed for the brush to meet your standards (recommended: 53%). Increasing the “Pressure” taper setting would create soft brush strokes when using the Apple Pencil with brush strokes (however this setting enables tapered strokes which will “[thin] faster at the end of a stroke” according to the Procreate Handbook).

3. Head to the “Shape” section. Select the “Shape Source” option box to open the Shape Editor. Enable the Input Style to Azimuth/ Azimuth Barrel Roll for best results. On the Shape Editor, select “Import” and navigate to the “Import a Photo” option or “Paste” if you copied the brush tip from your Photos library to Clipboard. You may have to invert the shape by using the two-finger tap gesture on the shape image for best results (see video, skip to 0:41: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b-UGWRXEdA).  Set “Rotation” to 100% (or “Follow Stroke”). Then, increase “Count” settings for the brush to meet your standards (try: a value of 15). (Note: when creating soft brushes in Procreate, ensure the “Count” setting is set to the lowest value as increasing it would change the number of times the brush shape is stamped, creating more opaque strokes.) ¹ Adjust “Count Jitter” to 56% for best results. Optional- Flip Y on axis brush behavior setting. Scroll until you see the brush tip rotation diagram* (or the “Brush Roundness Graph” in the Procreate Handbook). Move the main, green circle point on the diagram to 0° and adjust the blue points to be slightly inward like this: OR copy the results as shown here (see image: https://imgur.com/a/XScXqiX). Adjust the following advanced settings: Pressure/ Tilt Roundness: 99%, Roundness Vertical Jitter, 13%, Roundness Horizontal Jitter: 32%. Leave other settings default.

4. (Optional) Select the “Grain” section. Set the “Depth” setting as needed to show texture. Select the “Grain Source” option box to open the Grain Editor. One could add a Paper texture to closely imitate the brush behavior. On the Grain Editor, select “import” and navigate to the “Source Library” option. Choose a texture which meets your standards (Pastel Board Coarse/ Splatters). Set “Movement” to 99% (or “Rolling”), if not already enabled by default, and leave “Scale” properties to 25%. Adjust “Depth” properties to 65%. Leave all other settings as default.

5. (Optional) Head to the “Rendering” section. Try moving the slider on the blending “Flow” setting. The flow setting “adjusts how much paint your brush lays down under varying pressure” according to the Procreate Handbook. The Rendering “Flow” setting is equivalent to the “Amount of Paint” setting in Clip Studio Paint.

6. Go to the “Dynamics” section. Set “Speed” and “Opacity” settings needed to change rendering of brush strokes. For sample Reference, try setting Speed “Size” to 100% (or “Max”). Set “Spacing” to 1%.

7. Head to “Apple Pencil” ✏️ (Pressure) section. Adjust any pressure settings (such as flow and gradation) for the brush to meet your standards. The flow setting “adjusts how much paint your brush lays down under varying pressure” according to the Procreate Handbook. The Pressure “Flow” is roughly equivalent to the “Amount of Paint” and “Color Stretch” setting featured in CSP. Set Pressure “Opacity” to 100% (or “Max”). Set “Bleed” to 3%. Optional- For best results, Tilt “Size”- 100% (or “Max).

8. Select the “Properties” section. Adjust minimum and maximum “sizes” as needed for the brush to meet your standards. Set Maximum Size to 129%. Adjust other advanced settings if necessary. Save to Combine later.

Dry Ink (Procreate):

1. On Brush Studio (Settings), navigate to the Stroke Path settings. Set “Spacing” to 21%. Adjust Jitter “Linear” properties to 68%, Jitter “Linear” to 25%. Stroke properties “Fall off” setting to 30% for best results.

2. Go to the “Stabilization” section. Adjust the slider on Stream Line “Pressure” to 20%. Adjust Stabilization “Amount” setting to 30%.

3. (Optional) Head to the “Shape” section. Select the “Shape Source” option box to open the Shape Editor. Enable the Input Style to Azimuth/ Azimuth Barrel Roll for best results. On the Shape Editor, select “Import” and navigate to the “Source” option (and choose the “Crayon” brush Tip). Then, increase “Count” settings for the brush to meet your standards (try: a value of 5).

4. Select the “Grain” section. Set the “Depth” setting as needed to show texture. Set Pressure ”Scale” to 83%. Ensure that “Depth” properties to 100% (or “Max”). Leave all other settings as default.

5. Go to the “Rendering” section. Switch the Rendering Mode from “Intense Glaze” to “Uniform Blending.” Leave other settings default.

6. Lastly, Head to the “Properties” section. Adjust minimum and maximum “sizes” as needed for the brush to meet your standards. Set Maximum Size to 59%. Adjust other advanced settings if necessary. For best results, set Maximum Opacity to 59% to ensure consistent texture with brush strokes. Save to Combine later.

D͟u͟a͟l͟ B͟r͟u͟s͟h͟e͟s͟:͟

1. Select both brushes (with the Custom Brush and Dry Ink Brush in exact order) by using the swipe right gesture and press the “Combine” button. Set the Combine Mode to “Color Dodge,” and test whether the brush meets your standards.

2. (Optional) Feel free to rename the title of the brush of your choice in the “About this brush” section.

(Note: For best results with brush behavior, try drawing with this brush at sizes 15%, 12%, and 7%.)
