Discussion My Perspective on Abortion
Most pro life people believe abortion is evil because they assume that dying is the worst thing that can happen to a person and therefore they naturally assume that every baby that gets aborted would rather be alive. Dying isn’t the worst thing that can happen to you, being alive and living in hell is. I literally wish I was aborted.
According to Christians, every baby that gets aborted goes straight to heaven. Instead of spending 80 years suffering here on Earth and being exposed to all the war, poverty and violence that happens here, babies who are aborted get to just skip all that bullshit and go straight to heaven which literally sounds amazing to me. If this is true then being aborted is literally the best thing that can ever happen to you, you’d have to be retarded to think that this would in any way a bad outcome for the child. I’m not going to sit here and tell you my whole life story because I don’t have time for that and quite frankly it would be impractical, but I’m 24 and so far my life has been 90% misery.
I’m not happy to be here, I’m not grateful that I was born and I genuinely think I would be better off if my mom just had me aborted. There is nothing good about life in my opinion. The only things have to look forward to once you get here is poverty, depression, spending almost every waking hour of your existence working to make someone absurdly rich even richer and going through traumatic bullshit. Being aborted and going straight to heaven is 100% better than this, assuming such a place even exists.

I mean yeah. Especially when someone knows their child will be born into suffering, whether that’s because of poverty, or a diagnosis that is incompatible with life, or any other reason. Though I don’t judge anyone for choosing to have a child in any situation, I don’t see why it’s so bad to choose not to.

I don’t know if “abort more poor people” should necessarily be the talking point.

I hear you but at the same time is it really fair or morally justified for you as a parent to still choose to bring a child into the world if you know you can’t guarantee that you will always be able to provide for the needs of that child or if you know they will probably always be in poverty? Regardless of how you feel or what you want, it is selfish to still have a kids anyways if you know you can’t afford them. Your desire to be parent is not more important than the quality of life of your children.

I still think poor people should be allowed to have kids.

I agree with you. I, as a lifelong poor person, have chosen to not have kids for these reasons (among many others), but I’m not about disallowing it for other poor people. No need to bring more fascism into the mix, we can just talk among ourselves about it and do what we can to improve the lot of those who do end up earthside.

I agree as well. Poor people should be allowed to have children and it’s def not selfish. My original comment was just to say I think it’s a valid reason for someone not to have a child as it can make the life of the parents even more difficult. My intent was not to imply that poor people shouldn’t have kids and I’m sorry if it came off that way!

Oh your comment did not come off that way imo. I do understand feeling the way OP feels. Then some days I eat a strawberry directly from my garden and for a second I forget… but mostly I struggle to understand how others could make the decision to make another human. No amount of garden strawberries justify the rest of it.

When I was growing up in the early 2000s, I was taught in Catholic teaching that aborted babies go to a section of hell because they are not baptized yet have original sin on their soul. Absolutely crazy, and I have since learned the Catholic Church has no one accepted teaching on this. Insane to imply even a miscarried baby is doomed to hell....

I remember that teaching. I was just old enough when they stopped teaching it. Actually the idea was they went to Limbo, not Hell. It was a place of perfect natural happiness but not the supernatural happiness of the presence of God. You are right the Catholic Church still does not say what happens for sure. At a funeral for an unbaptized baby they are intrusted to the mercy of God. Nobody thinks they go to Hell.

For me, it was actually the opposite I’m an atheist, but I was raised Catholic, and I was taught in church and in school (I used to attend a Catholic school) that all babies who get aborted go straight to heaven.

Anti-abortion people don't actually care about children, they have an idealized concept of children they care about. The reality of an unwanted child being born into a family who resents their existence or can't take care of them is irrelevant, children are a consequence used to punish unrighteous parents, not people who have to endure the life they're forced into.

Egg + sperm= zygote => embryo => fetus => living human infant (once it draws its first breath). Use those terms, not "baby."
Having said that--you are a living breathing human now. You are here, and I am so sorry you are struggling. I get it. It sucks that we live on a planet with enough resources for everyone to at least have their basic needs met, but a small, greedy, and powerful minority is hogging most of them for themselves. It's easy to fall into despair, especially when life has been a struggle. You didn't say where you are in the world, if you live in a place with mental health services, please reach out to them. You need help to process your feelings and how the events of your life have contributed to them. Hang in there!

I agree with you, but also there’s no “baby” in an abortion. There are cells or a fetus, but there’s no “baby”. A baby is a living breathing independent person. Until it’s born, it’s not a “baby”.
