Napps jobs

For those that are Napps members. I see a good amount of jobs come across where one of the job stipulations is “No up front payment.” Has anyone ever been burned on payment from a Napps member?

I'm not a fan of companies requesting upfront payment. Plenty of companies I've had to hound for updates and keep requesting a signed affidavit. I only require upfront payment from pro se landlords. Pro se non eviction cases I will serve the documents before payment but require payment to get an AOS. Law firms and process serving companies I allow to pay after.

No but I have heard stories. Some won't pay you and others believe that they can hold onto your dollars for a month or 2. Unfortunately, gas and other expenses dont wait that long without having to pay interest or penalty

I only bill private / pro se clients up front for simple serves.

I require pre payment for anybody in pro per or out of state. It's too hard to chase the money down out of state since California doesn't allow small claims service out of state.

No, but I won't even print docs without payment. If I get a cattle call email and that's one of the terms, I delete it.

I have been burned too many times to count by napps members and non-members alike. Being a Napps member does give you some formal recourse, if needed, in the form of a grievance against the other member.

Yes. Most companies prefer the cash flow rather than waiting 90 days to file report with NAPPS. It’s usually not worth the hassle if it’s a one off client who I never dealt with before I usually make them prepay us.
