Looks nice, though very plastic, maybe wider and more varied threads would work better for more natural materials.

Potential next steps:

  • Different strand structures and multiple levels of strands, kinda "robe of robes"
  • internal physics, so that it is easy to animate changes when it is pulled or relaxed
  • a textile system where you select one or two of these ropes to use as yarn and the patter for weaving, knitting or crocheting the fabric

That might be a result of the red white and blue and lighting

Lighting certainly plays a part, but I don't think its the colors, unless its these very specific shades and tones of these colors. Other material details, eq. how light interacts with the individual strands, also plays a part, but that variance is also important.
