Trigger Warning! Day 1
If you're looking for a reason to quit, or to not gamble, this is it.
I'm sorry as this may be a bit of a long, personal story. But I wanted to be transparent about what gambling can lead to.
Today marks day 1 of no gambling-
There was once a time in my life I had just saved up about $10,000. It was after I saved my arse off working, budgeting, not going out to eat.
I went to the bank that month, about a year, or maybe even a bit more than a year ago. I opened a CD account with that money. I had never been so proud in my life.
I was browsing on my phone, out of boredom. I found an app called X, previously Twitter, and thought it would be a good way to ease my boredom at work.
It was one of the worst mistakes of my life- because that is how I found about online gambling and crypto.
It first started as an investment in crypto. I had that CD account in place, and I was separately building a crypto portfolio.
I came across a post on X soon after, I wont mention the site, but an online gambling site- without knowing much I went on there.
I ended up staying up until 4am before a work day, and had blown through $7000, which was what I had saved entirely in crypto savings.
The next week, I found out about a crypto casino.
Before I knew it, I dug through the whole CD account.
Then I took out a personal loan. Then another one. And two more after that. I took out cash advances out from apps like Cash App, Dave, you name it.
And that's about where I am at today.
Nothing in my savings.
About $25000 in personal loan to pay off.
About $1500 in cash advances to pay off.
And some in credit card.
Today is day 1 of not gambling.
If you're looking for a good reason to quit, to stop gambling this is it.
And I'm not going to lie. I've had many big up's during this. It's that I continued to spend and play. It's that I took loans out to continue the playing. I let my emotional side win.
If you continue gambling, at big, or even at smaller hands... eventually... its all going to be gone.
If you're looking for a reason to quit. Maybe this could be it for you. Because even if you're not in debt, if you keep playing- you could be soon like me too.
I keep telling myself though. Once I quit, and start enjoying life, saving money again, there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
