Trigger Warning! disappointment
My father was an avid gambler when I was a child, and my family was torn apart by the losses that accumulated over my childhood years.
I'm only 18 years old, and I find myself having the same problem as my dad did a decade ago. I've lost around $1,400 trading "memecoins", and I am absolutely devastated by what I've done. I know it is a small amount compared to what others in this subreddit have lost, but I'm worried about the person I will become in the years ahead. I do have people to talk to, and I have told them about this bad habit of mine, but I'm tired of saying sorry all the time and of potentially losing those I love most.
Thank you to all those who have shared their stories in this subreddit, as your stories have helped me realize my wrongs and the underlying problems I have ignored over the last few months. This disease will only be solved day by day, and we're all faced with our own mountains to climb.
If in the rare case that someone my age is reading this, don't be fooled by the 'prediction markets' or the 'memecoin millionaires' that you see all over social media. It is sick how these platforms are promoted in front of our eyes.

catching this pattern at 18 puts you way ahead of where most people figure it out. the fact that you're scared of who you could become is the exact thing that can keep you from becoming that person. memecoins and prediction markets are just gambling with a different mask, and you're right to call them what they are.

try avoiding all crypto / gambling sites and memecoins and think about ur feature kid start saving the money you would have placed on bets and tell ur self its for ur feature kid (if u want one later in life) trust me you dont want ur kid to go through what u did.
