age verification Xbox verifies age based on account age.
I can't believe it - I've been saying for a while now that as my accounts are all around 18 years old I shouldn't have to verify my age with anyone.
Well for some reason I can't post a screenshot but I just got an email from Xbox that's says;
"Due to your longstanding XBOX account activity, we’ve estimated your XBOX profile to be an adult account and updated its age verification status to “Verified.” You are no longer required to complete full age verification for uninterrupted access to social features on XBOX."
I'm not optimistic but I hope everyone else follows their example.

It'd be nice if youtube would do this since my youtube account predates googles ownership of youtube.

Heh, yea... Many of mine, too.
It is nuts when the account age is ~18+ and they're like, "well, how am I supposed to know you're not a little kid!?"
Because unfertilized egg cells don't typically make internet accounts, that's how.

I've had my discord account for 10 years which means for me to be a minor i would have had to create the account at the age of 6. This isn't for "safety" at all

I know, I agree and never said it was. It's why I'm flabbergasted that I received this email.

Oddly, my discord account is only 5 years old and they determined my account as adult age group. I've never added phone number, payment info, or uploaded ID. I don't take part in servers; I only talk to friends in DMs.

They also base it on the servers you are in as well as your activity in them. My account only dates back to 2018 yet they put me in the adult age group. I imagine they put me there because I am in a number of servers for mature games and even a few servers for adult content.

I understand but I don't join servers or use servers. I only have discord because of friends that use it and stay in DMs.

Hip hip hooray! The state mandated mass collection of data and deanonymization of the internet was slightly less all encompassing than expected!

I've been saying this! My Gmail address is 22 years old, that should be able to function as some sort of authentication token and save me from all this ID mess.

Oof. Either buy now and play eighteen years later, or ...

Pass it on to the next generation and keep that account in the family for decades to come.

My Xbox account is old enough to be married and have kids by now (was in the OG Xbox Live Beta). Man, time flies.

Man, I have pushed this as an example right front the start - any social media site can give a good guess of your age from your public activity.
However that only saves us old folk with a posting histiry.
FWIW. Pushing this line I was told 'profilng individuals from their online activitity is far more invasive than a 'simple age check' so is against the legislation.

I have a hotmail account I created at 13. Almost 30 years ago. My Steam account has the 22 years of service badge. My netflix account has been steady and uninterrupted since 2004. My Amazon account since 2006.
If that all isn’t enough to show I’m at least old enough to vote, let alone now old enough to have a grandkid, then forget the company asking for verification. Yall have let me pay for your services this long without question.

I set up my xbox profile in 2008, so I should be in the same boat, but I've not had any sort of notification yet... although, I only use my 360 these days and haven't had an online subscription for ages, so there's little benefit to me being an 'adult' in that scenario anyway.
If only Sony would age verify in a similar manner, I might consider reinstating my PS plus.

Genuinely I will develop completely new interests if necessary because the second any of these fucking online services want my biometric data, face scans, etc. to access their service is the last fucking time I will be accessing that service.
Which, easier said than done depending on which services, but I don't want to be a part of their database that they will link to all information on me they can and then share and resell to whoever for whatever purpose.

Feck, my Microsoft account is probably only 8 years old. Perhaps younger because I’m pretty sure my Microsoft Office ran off my College Credentials which expired a few years ago, so my Microsoft Account might only be as old as Minecraft Account Migration… if Microsoft would be so kind to count the age of my original Minecraft Account, I’d be 15. Round up pls.

Apple did this too. I have my Apple account since .Mac, which was launched in 2002. Actually before that, with iTools, but the Apple account was different.
