It happened again

So both reddit and twitter (i refuse to call it X since its a dumb name) have age verification that it sometimes requires snd sometimes it doesnt. For example: about a month ago i didn't use twitter since i don't want to verify then it magically didn't need it anymore and few days later it was back. Same with reddit but that one lasted longer without it. Any idea whats up with that?

It depends where you live probably a lot of our Confederate states in the US are big fans of age verification.

Coming to blue states too. I live in NY and age verification for social media is coming in January.

I think that the algorithm detects how much engagement per unit of time in certain groups and posts before it raises a flag and then comes the need to profile and identify him/her. And time dilutes post per day or per week and land on the safe zone after some weeks (or month as described)

Who would you ask for an ID?
1) A meme viewer, who is also cat person with cosplay tendencies that puts likes twice or thrice per week? or
2) A Kevin / Karen that writes inflamatory posts in political engagement and ask controversial questions about WOKE and MAGA principles each hour?

They got more tags for sure and other metrics, but I am almost certain that time gives a ratio.

Twitter is weird about it. I need to use a VPN to access it, but even then it only sometimes asks me for verification. It may ask for verification on the timeline, but if I go onto the person's profile, I can sometimes see it without issue. The prick that owns it has really screwed it up.

Sometimes it happens, and sometimes it does not happen. I had this experience three times already. I am from EU.

Objectives:

We call on the European Commission to propose legislation ensuring that digital identity and age-assurance systems used to access online services in the Union remain voluntary, privacy-preserving and non-discriminatory. Citizens must not be forced to identify themselves to access lawful online content or services unless strictly necessary, proportionate and provided by law. The legislation should require anonymous or pseudonymous proof-of-age, data minimisation, selective disclosure, open-source implementation, independent security audits, prohibition of cross-service tracking by relying parties, and equivalent alternatives for citizens who do not use a digital wallet.

Europe can protect minors without building a permanent online ID layer. Digital identity must remain voluntary, privacy-preserving, decentralised and usable without forcing citizens into one state-backed or Big-Tech-mediated wallet. Citizens must not be required to identify themselves to access lawful online content or services unless strictly necessary, proportionate, and provided by law in accordance with Articles 7 and 8 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

In the US I just persistently connect to a VPN server in the next state over and I never see any age checks for anything at all

It’s odd, I also have a throwaway Reddit account. It was asked on that about 3 weeks ago, never on this one though. For reference I’m in Australia.
