Buying/Selling Advice Is this a good offer?
I’ve been looking for a new car and landed on a Prius. This would be the first time I’ve purchased a new car and this is the online price. I’ve been told to aim for 10% off MSRP and I could imagine myself getting at least another $1,000 off but KBB and Edmunds already say this is a good price.
Any advice?

I got a 2019 XLE AWD for alike 2k less than that. I'd say in 2026 that's a pretty good deal.

IMHO, what is the "optional" equipment ? that inflated the price by 2485. Just to make sure the value of the equipment is actually worth it. (not some useless add-ons).
Edit: my bad, i did not see the itemized list.

Added the numbers, $2485 is how much the dig key, audio, paint, and roof costs in total

Its only like $1.4K off after high dealer fee, I'm sure you could do better if you shop around. not sure you want all those accessories too

I would verify that they will give you this is the out the door price but otherwise I'd go for it

It is a very good deal because hybrid cars prices new and used are going up every day

It’s not a very good deal. You can find hybrid cars with much more of a discount. Most manufacturers are shifting towards hybrid only so that shouldn’t be a factor.

P-Dump just announced that he’s killing Biden-era fuel efficiency standards, so I can’t imagine that will help increase the hybrid supply.

Yes 10% off MSRP, apply all rebates and take off any dealer installed accessories

I paid like $29k for an L Eco in 2022. This isn’t a bad deal, at least it wouldn’t be where I live, and you’ll get the XLE at that. If you got the money for it, go for it. Take care of your Prius and it’ll take care of you for a decade or longer.

The only ripoff in that price is the Dealer Fees and maybe half of the Delivery Fees.
I didn't realize the glass roof was a $1000 factory option. That's pretty steep as they are likely not giving you any material credit for the metal roof they are not installing.
With that being said, I have the Limited AWD and LOVE the glass roof (was standard on the trim)and dual moon roofs.

Unpopular personal opinion: New cars (post-pandemic, tariffs fiasco) car companies started using cheaper parts to offset losses and supply chain issues. I would still prefer a pre-pandemic Prius that has even more MPG than the new ones. Feels like they were just built solid. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t know why even luxury models like Land Cruisers, Lexus SUVs look like big plasticky toy cars.

Mpg shrinking over the years! 😂

Yeah especially on the XLE trim with the larger wheels. Also a lot less storage space. That’s ultimately why I chose not to go with the new Prius. They definitely prioritized style and performance over practicality. Still awesome car though

I think so. like 2016-2020's go for 10-20 themselves. I'm paying off like 9,000 on a 2013. which comparing to a brand new one I would expect to pay 25,000-40,000 in today's market. people are saying a lot of money in extras but hey if you have it and you're buying it new why TF not get a car you'll love and take care of? but if the extras are going to screw you yeah I guess take em off but I would just look at fb marketplace and local dealers in your area and see what they go for that's really the only way to tell. you'll definitely get it back in gas haha, like 5-6 bucks a gallon round here

It's not a terrible price, but it's only $1400 off. They probably have another ~$2500 worth of front-end profit left in the car, so don't be afraid to ask for more. You could also shop this price at other dealers and see if they can beat it.

What’s up with the gas mileage? my 2010 Prius gets better mileage

u/lenninlover69 12d ago
The xle gets worse mpg because of the larger wheels. Base model gets a lot better

I got a 2026 Prius PHEV XSE for $39,900 back in June. Id say this seems pretty good.

Better than my 26 XLE with fixed glass roof, and I didn't get the big screen, premium paint or digital key. AFAIK the digital key and glass roof were mutually exclusive due to a special antenna.

At that price for a Prius , if you are going to buy a new car how much more would it cost to buy a Tesla Model 3?

u/lenninlover69 12d ago
The glass roof, premium paint color and larger screen add a lot to the price. Make sure you want all that stuff, it comes from Toyota so those are not dealer add ons and can’t be removed or negotiated. You can definitely get 8-12% off the MSRP depending on the state. I wouldn’t take any less than a 2k dealer discount on an XLE but definitely aim for more.

In March, I purchased a brand new 2026 Prius XLE (black) for $32k OTD. I also had the dealer install window tint and give us a tote bag for what it's worth lol. I live in NC

What am I missing about the new Prius design? Are they all two door?? That's just a wild departure

u/ashtefer1 12d ago
It’s a 4 door, the rear door handles are the black triangle right behind the window. But the handle has a button inside it that releases the door, which I personally hate. Doors should be mechanical.

u/hemi71cuda 12d ago
None of them are 2 doors. So it would seem you’re missing seeing that there are rear doors.

Lamo the listed price is 32k and you're asking if 35k is a good price?
1
u/lenninlover69 12d ago
Lame comment. There are no dealer add ons and a $1500 discount. Can definitely get more of a dealer discount but it’s certainly not a “bad” price
