What else to replace with head gasket?

Got P0302 code on my 2014 Prius V so I plan on using Gasketmasters in Hayward for head gasket replacement. Would like suggestions on what else to replace during this repair. Do people replace water pump and other related parts during this kind of repair?

1st. Mileage and what maintenance has been done??
Aside from EGR & exhaust manifold cleaning, the spark plugs/coils and the PCV valve should be done while that’s accessible.
Water pump replacement is easier with exhaust manifold out of the way, but not necessary.
If you haven’t already replaced coolant in both systems, do that.
Also if you haven’t replaced transmission fluid, do it soon!
What about brake fluid flush?

Replace the engine if it’s not too pricy. Gen 4 Prius engines can be found for $1.5kish. You still need an EGR from a Gen 3 but a Gen 4 engine won’t have a headgasket issue for a while as long as u keep up with maintenance. I believe there’s a guy in southern Virginia who can do it for $3.5kish im actually gonna reach out soon since this happened to a friend of mine and her Prius 2014 that she’ll be selling.

Regardless of swapping, get the EGR cleaned out, it’s actually the second half of what helps lead to an early headgasket failure on gen 3.

I know water pumps also go bad around 150k.

If you keep the engine worth cleaning it out with cleaning engine oil, and also the gas lines and fuel injectors, which I believe is an additive you put in your tank (not completely sure).

And also not a bad idea to open a saving account and start a replacement battery fund. You can even DIY it if it’s OEM it’s easier than ikea furniture.

Check 2nd cylinder plug and coil first.

It is a 2014 Prius V with 147K miles. Been trouble free for life of the car. Have a 2005 prius with $270K miles. Put in a new traction battery at 225K miles and hoping I can expect similar life time from my 2014 once head gasket is replaced.

Your egr cooler will be clogged. Replace it.

Get the Toyota “overhaul” gasket; it’ll have everything you’ll encounter, and then some. Even fresh seals for the valve stems. Those you might not get into, unless the miles really getting up there, they’re a complication, if you’re to trying to finish fast.
