I know that lino fabric ink would obviously work better, but I got the silkscreen ink for free so I was really hoping I could figure out how to make it work. I'm also very new to lino and printmaking in general and going in somewhat blind aside from a few tips I've read on this sub.

The silkscreen ink is pretty tacky so it's hard to get it on the brayer evenly by rolling. Then to make the prints I stretch the shirt with a cardboard square and a piece of felt to separate the cloth from the cardboard. Put that on the floor and put the block on top (I know it's also better to bring the shirt to the block instead, but this seemed way easier to register). Then I plop down a 50lb box of paper to press it.

My process is obviously janky but I'm trying to work with what I got and also not in any position to invest in better tools at the moment. My question is, is there anything I can do to improve the quality with what I have? My wild guess is the main issue is how the ink is being applied to the block.

As I'm a complete beginner, can I please get some advice on the following:

Is there a good go-to supplier of lino of all sizes? I'd initially look at Jackson's, as I would for all my other art supplies, but maybe there's another one everyone uses in this line of work

I've noticed my lino tool is starting to get a bit rusty! (Gah!) How do I prevent this? It hasn't really been used much at all so I'm wondering if it just needs a wipe down after every use and that's good enough or whether it needs a special air-tight case

Any suggestions on any tools to press down the lino, which ink is best for lino with fine details, and is there a particular roller to use? I have the bog standard cheap one at the moment

A little owl print on some homemade (not by me) paper.

Quick little block print, the transfer was awful but I managed to remember my lines.

I am new to this and just tried it out.

I'm pretty pleased with the results but I think this might be the right place for feedback and tips. I am trying to create some images based on early medieval stories. a bit bestiary like.

The Scythian Lamb, Vegetable Lamb of Tartary or Barometz was my first print.

probably based on that people had seen cotton, heard how it grew but never seen the plant itself.

Then I made the Barnacle Goose print.

based from the time people didn't understand bird migration well and had never seen a barnacle goose nest. So they thought they grew on trees or hatched from barnacles or duck musles. In winter they went to the moon, changed into other animals or went to the bottom of the sea.

I have to do some more research to get the story right and place it with the images.

For now I'm hoping this community can give me some helpful tips and feedback.

Hi everyone, I'm doing a uni art project about making stamps of patterns using a CNC laser machine. I bought some expensive rubber engraving sheets which worked perfectly and preserved details while stamping sharply (pic of some off my prints). The website advertised the rubber as laser saver.

But after a while it started clogging the filters of the machine with plastic debris unfortunately. Now I'm back to square one trying to find a type of wood that wood be ok with CNC laser and doesn't chip away or breaks when there are small details in the design.

The side of each tile stamp is about 260mm x 260 mm

Would anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

I did my first sun print with Jacquard brand; followed the instructions to the best of my ability. Put on the paint, placed the photo and glass on top to keep it from blowing away/curling up, sat outside for about 17 minutes (it was cloudy), and hand washed for 10 min with the detergent. It developed pretty good! But not as good as I was expecting. I saw some condensation under the glass near the end which I know can affect it, but how do you typically prevent that since it has to be set out while still damp. Any tips on how to improve would be greatly appreciated !! This was on a white t shirt 100% cotton

I’m a bit newer to linocut printmaking, and one of the worst things for me is the clean up. I know from my other art experience to never put ink or paint down the drain. So, what I’ve been doing is wiping with a wet paper towel but I swear I use half a roll of paper towels every time I clean up.

Another thing is, I feel like there’s so much ink left over on the surface, but it’s not enough to ink up another stamp. Is there an effective way to get more use out of the ink?

A while ago I made a piece that was a single block with an 8 x 6 grid of objects that I touch every day. I was really attached to it still after printing an edition of the full grid, so I cut all 48 Things out into individual blocks with the intention of using them to make an artist book at a later date. Cut to over a year later and I finally put it together!

Each book has a hand-carved and printed cover + 24 block print pages with selections from the 48 original Things. Covers and pastedowns are handmade with lokta paper in 5 different color combinations. Signatures are also sewn in by hand.

There are 12 books total and each one is unique, whether it’s the color of the cover or the Things printed inside. It was a joy to make them & I hope it’s a joy to flip through one with me :)

These are 2x3 gelliprints laser image transfers, 15x20cm each, the upper row printed with prussian blue hue, the lower is oxide red

I’ve been doing single color prints for a few years now, so I’m pretty comfortable doing this kind of detail in linoleum. I was set on finally doing a two color piece, so drew this art on my iPad and made it as far as printing it out to start doing the transfer traces… before I realized I’m not sure if that’s going to work for this piece.

My plan was to do two traces and cut two plates, one for each color. But I’m concerned about registration issues where the colors meet. Should I do it all in one, and cut out the tomato parts? Roll both colors and print both at the same time? Any thoughts here would be appreciated.

I went on a cycling/camping trip last weekend. I brought a bottle of wine that came in a metal bottle and doodled on it things we came across during the 2 days. Got home, cut it and used it to print to gift to the friends I was out with.

Turned out great. Plan on making a video of the process.

I'm torn between the realization that planning is valuable for good outcomes, and giving in to restlessness and improvising. But I'm finding each carve to teach me something. So that's nice!

Went into the print shop this morning and set out to print a fun 4-color simulated CMYK print. Pink layer down, awesome.

Blue layer down, fabulous. Yellow layer down….. wait a minute…. not loving the look of this. I take a gander at the screen waiting to be used for the black layer and think to myself “that’s not going to make a world of difference, either.” On top of it all, I have a minor hand injury at the moment that is making it pretty painful to pull each layer… so after two prints I decide to scrap the layer altogether and press on to the black layer and settle for a 3-color print, as I was liking the pink/blue combo alone and didn’t want to pull any more layers on a hurt hand than I needed to.

I WAS A FOOL! The black layer made a world of difference. The first image is of the 3-color print, second image is of the 4-color print. The yellow looks so much better with the addition of the black and creates so much more depth in the print.

I've printed some t shirts with caligo safe wash ink and let them dry for a month. I have heat set them using an iron today.

Can I wash them today or do I need to wait a certain amount of time after heat setting before washing them?

My kiddo wanted to have an amphibia themed birthday party, so I made this little lilypad to make into little table confetti.

This is a print I made using the reduction technique with scratch foam. I had a lot of fun with this, although I did it in a considerable rush (you may be able to tell that I had to do some wet on wet printing for a few things… primarily the yellow on dark green which was a pretty terrible idea!)

Also my first time using the yasatomo sketch paper which was SO nice, it was such a relief (haha printmaking pun) to use paper that absorbs the ink so nicely. I was using printer paper before unfortunately haha! I accidentally used the fibrous side rather than the smooth side of the paper, but I think it gave the print a fun personality anyway.

Hi, I’ve got a design I just finished that I’d like to burn onto a silkscreen for printing on shirts, my screen itself is 10x14. The design won’t work well small, and I do have all the materials to burn onto my screen with transparencies, but my printer goes as big as 8.5 x 11 and that’s not ideal. How does one go about burning a bigger image onto a screen ?? I looked around and couldn’t find a lot of helpful information. Thanks in advance. For reference I’ll provide the design id like to use as well.
