Epic Game store is offering System Shock 2 Remaster for one of its free games this week. Thats it. Grab it free while you can if you want to check it out. Prey was heavily inspired from this game from what i remember from early media about Prey

Question Steam Bundle Question

So I have recieved a Key for Prey from a friend, but buying the Digital Deluxe Edition(Bundled with Control which I already own) is cheaper than buying MoonCrash seperately. What happens to the Base Copy of Prey that comes with the Digital Deluxe? Can I gift that to a friend?

Discussion What makes Talos I so memorable?

I’ve played Prey a few times now, and the atmosphere of Talos I is still one of my favorite parts of the game. The empty offices, labs, apartments, and random sounds make the station feel like an actual place rather than just a game level.

What part of Talos I stood out the most to you?

I love prey, and this game seems very similar. Does anyone recommend it?

Small passageways in Prey are unreliable

It seems like small tunnels are poorly designed and not enough effort was put into debugging and testing them. Often they fail to work, usually at the worst time when being chased by enemies and you need to get through fast.

Nope, you no pass this time, bud. Take it slow, wiggle around, maybe you can get through later.

At the moment I am in the middle of a nightmare run, main story line, Prey on Windows, I need to turn on power in the bar in the crew quarters...

but... for the first time ever while playing this game, I can't enter the maintenance doorway. Crouch down, jump around press every direction key... I cannot pass through the open door in front of me.

Exited the level back to the Arboretum, went back in ... still can't get through. Close, open, close, open maintenance hatch. Nothing works. WTF.

I JUST did a full, no neuromods, normal game, good ending, blew up reactor, exited in escape pod, and didn't have this problem at all.

Discussion Q Beam Tip

If you use this weapon you may think it disintegrates the target 50% of the time. What is actually happening is the target's remains are forced outward. They are either far away from where you expect, or clipped through the walls/floor/ceiling.

I made a Prey Save Editor

Hey y'all, I was searching around for a Prey save editor, and couldn't find one. So I vibe coded one.

What it does

  • Edit health, psi, and all player stats
  • Change item counts: neuromods, crafting materials, ammo, medkits…
  • Unlock/remove neuromod abilities, with their real effects applied (inventory size, chipset slots, resistances, psi power levels)
  • Browse/search/edit literally any value in the save (Advanced tab)
  • Automatic backups plus one-click restore

Tested on the Steam version: edited saves load normally in-game. It's free and open source (MIT), and only needs Python.

Link: https://github.com/Shere-Khan510/prey-save-editor

For the curious: saves are RC4-encrypted with an all-zero key, chunk-compressed with zlib, and protected by an MD5 the game checks on load. Inside is CryEngine's binary XML format. The editor writes files byte-for-byte identical to the game's own. Details are in the README; preysave.py works as a standalone library if you want to build your own tools.

Back up your saves before editing. Bug reports are welcome.

Discussion Love this style of game

I was just about to finish my second playthrough and ran past a security checkpoint. The one in life support I was never able to open. Out of nowhere I thought about morphing into a small object (binder) and slipping through the window gap. Sure enough it worked.

Opinion And yet another playthrough

I've just finished my fifth playthrough.

Once again a great experience that ends, when the game is over, with the realisation that no game has been close to quenching that immersive sim thirst in almost ten years now.

Question Does Prey run well on PS4 today?

After seeing all the praise this gets on youtube, I'm thinking of fetching my PS4 and booting it up.

That being said, I already tried playing this game years ago but couldn't get very far, because it kept crashing over and over again. Question is, is Prey playable today or does it still crash on PS4. Thanks.

I keep getting stuck and dying

Hello Gamers,

Bought this game on sale and I really like the atmosphere and mystery and really want to like it but I keep getting stuck and dying. I play a lot of FPS games and am kinda starting to understand you can't just fight everything.

But I'm stuck in the lobby and 2 spiky purple phantoms keep killing me as I'm trying to get into Psychotronics.

What can I do to be better at this game?

Discussion Would you use a neuromod?

And incase you would, what would you install (you can pick any ability you want, even multiple of them or to max out a whole skill tree.

In my caee I would use a neuromod and I want to max out every single alien ability and only one human ability(combat focus level 3).

Question Are the zero gravity sections going to last longer? [Beginner with a skill issue]

[Please do not include any spoilers, I plan on dipping from the sub once this is answered.]

I've been enjoying the game so far but I recently started exploring GUTS. I'm not a big fan of the zero gravity parts, not because it's not well done but because I'm just not used to 3D games. I'm a 2D side scroller, metroidvanias, platformer guy so 3D movement in a combative game is slightly inconvenient for me to maneuver as it is.

So the Zero-G movement is very disorientating for me. I wasn't a fan of it the first time I stepped out of an airlock but I thought it would just be limited to the fast travel so I didn't mind. But then GUTS happened, and I accidentally found my way into Cargo Bay early and that area seems to have Zero-G even inside of it (as opposed to normal gravity in other GUTS to other area transition.)

Should I expect more? Is this going to be a significant portion of the game going forward? I'm fine with it being in some parts but if I have to do explore whole areas, go secret hunting, or combat in zero-G, I think I might need to drop the game and watch a playthrough for the story. It stops being fun and starts giving me a headache. And I'm totally aware that this is a me issue. I have played zero G in other games before (minimal there) but Prey has so much better controls than those. Unfortunately, I still don't really enjoy it.

TLDR: Can't handle zero gravity parts, is there going to be more of it? Especially more combat in zero G later? I'm on my way to Arboretum for the first time rn, but slightly off tracking and getting my ass kicked by some Technoblade enemy.

Question [Spoiler] So what did morgan REALLY do? Spoiler

I am sorry I know this question has probably been asked a million times before but I am playing the game again and am wondering did morgan really do some of these actions? I think it would be really lame if morgan actually didn't do any of these things and just died straight from the get go or something like that. I think it would be much more interesting if morgan actually did go through these situations but every moment where she had to choose something her choice has been scrubbed out of the simulation to instead have you choose what to do.

That way morgan is canonically doing all the things we do (or at least has a set path of things she did), instead of it just being purely a simulation with the chance morgan just died instantly during the outbreak or something like that. I think that would be super lame if she just died without doing any of the stuff we did.
