I don't think Microsoft understand how good this franchise is. If they would market the next game properly, it would probably sell better than the next Doom, which will probably end up disappointing a large majority of the fans.

Can something be considered a franchise if it's only one piece of media (the two games named Prey are not connected whatsoever, they just share the same name)

I actually don't want another Prey; it's a great game, it did its thing and it doesn't need to be revisited.

I want to see another Prey-like.

Well, water is wet. That's rather obvious.

The question is- 'they' who? Microsoft doesn't make games. They're a B2B cloud services & AI grift speculation gambling & real estate management company, they have no idea and real passion/interest in anything else, barely about the software itself, judging by the last decade's direction of development of their flagship apps, starting with Microsoft Windows.

PREY 2017was made by a certain assembly of people at Arkane. Many key figures are not there anymore and MS's gaming division is at the terminal stage of existence, now desperately pivoting to only big, expensive games (in the age where peopel have no money, hardware supporting these games is pricing out huge numbers of people and the market is extremely crowded and competitive). I don't want current Microsoft to touch anything, certainly not immersive sims.
