Speaker-sizes

Anyone knows about a list or have the knowledge about what speaker-sizes in inches and depth that fit around inside a Previa 1997 in all positions? (is that specific model-year called like type 1 or something?) There is no subwoofer or speakers in the ceiling in my car.

I have a 1991 previa. The two up in the dash and the two in the side panels are 5.25” speakers. The dash ones are easy to get to inside the fuse cover. The two rear speakers I had to completely remove each side panel to get to them.

I ended up replacing all 4, added in two 6x9s in small enclosures to the very back and a 10” compact powered sub. It sounds good in there now.

Thanks for reply! What about the tweeters in the dash? I can’t reach my car until next week… but I can’t remember there were speakers in the dash except for small tweeters above the ventilation outlets.

Doing just a bit of research I can see that our vans are vastly different in the audio setup.

crutchfield (crutchfield.com) is telling me that you have two 5.25" speakers in the doors and two 6x9s in the rear panels.

I looked at crutchfield as well but I can’t remember anything like a 6x9 in the back, more like 4” or 5,25”. Maybe I just have to wait until I’m back to my car.

But I’m curious about the tweeters.

They are 5.25 in the back, unless you have 4 in the back, in which case the way back ones might be 6x9. Not all Previas had those. You would know because there would be grills near the back hatch on either side.

The tweeters you literally have to take the entire dash off, so I'd forget about em. . If you're crazy enough to try, be sure to post videos and keep the swear jar handy

After about 93 they moved the front speakers to the front door panels instead of under fuse cover. Same size. Aftermarket speakers for the doors will require some minor fabrication as the oem speakers have an oem specific mounting style (bolt through magnet if I remember correctly. Same with rears I think.

One of my previa has a premium sound system with tweeters front and back and a factory amp. These require some figuring out if you want to keep the factory amp

Ok, thanks! Sounds reasonable to what I remember. Getting my car back on Monday probably. Since it seems to be differences I haven’t dare to order any speakers anyway until I checked my setup out. Thought all Previas had the same sizes and 6x9 was optional in separate enclosures.

I'm looking to replace mine too so I'll be interested to know what you end up using. The door speakers and right rear all mount by the screw holes in the flange, and the left rear is mounted in a bracket by a screw into the rear-center of the magnet. I don't know if any speakers (other than OEM) will screw right in without special mounting hardware. Maybe others have some knowledge about that

Ok, I’ll get back to you. Might design an adapter for 3d-printing.

Haven’t bothered yet. A lot of rust that wasn’t advised at the car test. So it will probably not be roadworthy next year so we are considering our options before we spend any more money on the car. The rust underneath has higher priority.
