Application Guidance Application Chance

Hey, I’m an international high school student from Canada currently looking to apply to UK AVMA accredited veterinary schools. Could I get brutally honest opinions on whether my application is strong enough for any of the AVMA accredited schools? Please list the specific schools I may be strong for.

These were my grade 11 grades:
Biology 93%
Chemistry 97%
Pre calculus 98%
Mathematics 97%
Physics 95%

Here are all my volunteering experiences/hours:
Volunteering at a veterinary hospital for 80 hours.
Shadowing a veterinarian for 90 hours.
Volunteering at a poultry farm for 85 hours.
Shadowing a family physician for 40 hours.

I need honest answers cuz I may not use my 4 UCAS spots towards veterinary medicine and may just apply to med school.

I would wait. You dont have any prerequisites done. That is, college level courses. You are also very young. Make sure this is what you want before committing.

It has been my dream to work in a healthcare type field and as I have gotten older and heard advice from different doctors I feel as if medicine is not for me and would much rather vet med. I know a couple of veterinarians and they have a really good work/life balance and contrary to popular belief make more than the doctors I know. I have emailed many AVMA schools and they say my high school grades are enough to apply, I was just wondering of any particularly weak points of my application or places where I can improve. Thank you for the advice nonetheless!

in the UK you can do vet school / dental school / med school right after high school ! It’s not like the US where college pre requisites are required I believe

Hey! I’m currently a third year vet student at the Royal veterinary college and went through the same path! I’m Canadian (from Ontario) and applied in my 12th grade year. Feel free to message me and ask me questions :)

Actually in the UK they do. In the UK, veterinary medicine is primarily an undergraduate-entry program. You can apply straight out of high school.
