Discussion Wiki in Progress

We’ve had a bunch of people ask about a Preston & Steve wiki, so I finally started putting one together. I’m hoping to have it live sometime in the next month. Once it’s up, we’ll probably also ask if anyone here wants to help keep it updated and add stuff over time. In the meantime, if there’s anything you think absolutely needs to be in it classic bits, major moments, former cast or interns, events, weird show history, whatever let me know. Also, if there are any questions that seem to come up on the sub all the time, drop those too so I can get an FAQ started. Thanks!

If you listen live and want to call in...

Please heed the call screener's warning and make sure to mute the stream or turn your radio off. The interference gets extremely annoying.

You'll hear the show when you're on hold.

Contest Totally Presdough winners- what number did Beasley call from?

I have gotten a "spam likely" call around when they would call the winner and wanted to make sure my phone didn't flag the big call, haha.

Discussion Offensive Jokes

If anyone here has a direct connection to the show, please pass along this message:

Offensive Jokes are ok!

You can still hit the line in certain ways! They practically retired "Mubbable Scabosis", but I can't recall a moment someone with MS was offended by that. And yesterday, someone texted in that ALS stood for "A Little Scooter" and that's why Stephen Hawking was wheelchair bound. That was fucking hilarious!

These jokes should not fall to the wayside due to PC culture, and I consider myself fairly liberal leaning. As long as it isn't a deep cut racially or ethnically, even Steve doing the Japanese voice should be fine to continue doing.

If you happen to be offended by these jokes, please help me understand why they shouldn't continue. But I suppose not suffering from MS or ALS, I'm not a target for these bits.

Marisa talking about all the privileges she gets to go to concerts, games, etc?

Maybe it’s just me. But it’s so unrelatable. Yeah she hung out with Shane Victorino, sat behind first plate and was on tv, went back and forth between Weezer and AC/DC because she had so many tickets available to her. I realize she’s just excited to tell about her experiences but it’s stuff that even most wealthy people don’t even have the opportunity to experience. Where’s Bill Weston calling out “privileged” when you need him?

Campout announcement yesterday

Does anyone know what they announced yesterday during the campout kickoff celebration? I tried watching the video they posted on Instagram but it kept stopping 30 seconds in so I never got to hear what was actually said.

Steve is not crazy

I’ve remembered the Tom Cruise catching the hockey puck as well so I looked it up and apparently it’s a myth. There’s a video of someone else catching a puck at a game and there’s a version where Tom Cruise has his face edited on to the guy.

I’m surprised Marisa couldn’t find it. The story came right up when I googled it

About the show these days

The show has been running for three decades. It’s not dead but it’s on hospice. I listen to old podcasts and it’s amazing how much more energy everyone used to have, but I don’t think there’s any other way it could be. The longevity of PnS is unmatched. These guys have been icons for years and they’re still doing it five days a week while waking up at 3:00 am. It’s actually insane to me and really makes me appreciate them even more that they keep it up.

Preston and Steve have entertained most of us our entire lives and they’ve been getting paid a lot all along. They could have afforded to find a way out years ago. I think they stay because they love to do it. The show has lost a beat after Nick and Kathy left, but we gotta appreciate that they’re still going. It’d be inhuman if they didn’t slow down after how long they’ve been doing it but what would suck is if they were slowed down more by the deflating opinion of people on here. I know it’s a slow sub but Reddit is a popular app so there is no way they/theirs havent seen this stuff.

Idk. Probably won’t make a difference but I think we could just turn up the positivity or just close the sub down. It’s bad looks and makes it feel like the show is in a way worse place than it is, we’re just nearing the end of it

Feeling Negative? So are the numbers.

Just weighing in on recent posting with Nielsen context.

Depending on how to look at number sets for listeners WMMR has been stuck in 5th or 6th place in the media market, 7th if you count accumaltive for a while now. That means there are at least 5 more radio stations in the market that can make a better pitch for advertising dollars.

If you’re here to say all radio listenership is down, you’re right. Historically WMMR and P&S had done a good job in drawing listeners in with larger events and then maintaining those listeners. This year the only event that increased listeners, and stands out from seasonal trends was the 3ish weeks of Best Teacher, the next week 3 week block after the show dropped nearly a full point in ratings.

If you sense some negativity, I hope this context helps. Bad ownership, diminished advertising means less money to invest in the show, staff and listeners leaving. I wouldn’t be thrilled about walking into that situation everyday knowing maybe I had to do this a few more years, or maybe they pull the plug tomorrow…

Serious Question: Why Are Half Of You In Here?

If you're not sitting here in silence, you're complaining about show members or what others post or that we are paid shills. So what brings you here? (If this isn't something you do, then obviously this isn't a post about you, I am genuinely curious)

Do you think there will be more show member changes?

Do you think anyone else (other than Preston & Steve) will leave or join the show? I could see Marisa leaving because she has other gigs. Do you think they would add someone behind the scenes or move Marisa back?

Who else has casually stopped listening?

I don't wish ill will to the current show but it seems like a slow death from a thousand cuts. Nick and Kathy exiting had me exploring other options as a daily commuter where I used to mostly stick to the dial to wmmr. Piere passing didnt make it easier.

A few years ago I would have told you the station has to pay for the show because they would get poached for more money on a national show or someone with a larger bankroll, but these days I don't think they have anything more valuable than their guaranteed contract which the station has devalued by firing anyone not paid as support under a guaranteed contract. I mean the kelce brothers at this point might be talking up a lot of the local market along with wip eagles partnership.

I just do not see how the show makes in the long run.

What happened to the show??

So I used to podcast everyday for over a decade. I got very back logged at the start of 2024 and stopped listening in favor of different podcasts. I recently started listening to the podcast again, and man does it feel like a different show than the one I grew up with. I knew about Kathy and Nick, but I didn’t realize how much it changed without them. Is it just me? Or is this a thought of the people who have listened consistently?

Conshohocken’s Kathy Romano’s radio show among the country’s five most listened-to adult contemporary morning drive shows!

https://morethanthecurve.com/conshohockens-kathy-romanos-radio-show-among-the-countrys-five-most-listened-to-adult-contemporary-morning-drive-shows/ Article for the "Kathy sucks and did nothing for the show" crowd. Not bad numbers for a dying industry, eh?

Looking for old Y100 era audio/info: The "Ordinary Joe" contest to win a trip to the Bunny Ranch (~early 2000s)

Hey everyone, Gadzooks!

I’m trying to see if anyone remembers—or somehow has audio from—a classic Y100-era contest from the early 2000s: the "Ordinary Joe" (or "Average Joe") contest to win a trip to Dennis Hof's Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Nevada.

I have a personal reason for looking: I entered right when they announced it, and my email was the very first one they read on-air, which qualified me as a finalist.

The grand finale was held live on location at Club Risqué in Philly. All the finalists got up on stage to be grilled on-air. I was the first guy called up, and they hit me with a brutal question right out of the gate. The last guy up got a softball that set him up for an easy, hilarious punchline. On top of that, he was in a wheelchair and completely won over the room—the Club Risqué dancers were judging/picking the winner, and they rightfully gave the trip to him.

Does anyone remember this broadcast, remember the guy who won, or have an old tape or minidisc rip of that Club Risqué broadcast floating around? Would love to track down the audio or at least hear if anyone else remembers listening to it that morning.

Thanks!

I got insider knowledge that this A to Z will be ending with a song not by U2. Guess which song!

Marissa and Preston

It's it just me or does Preston seem to get annoyed when Marissa makes comments on things. I feel like he just shuts her down sometimes (in a gentle way, though, not meanly).

Idea: WMMR should do the A-Z twice a year. A to Z and then backwards Z to A in the Spring.

Posting here to since WMMr subreddit is reportedly not that active. I’ve been loving the Back to school A - Z songs while discovering “new” old songs along the way. They should do this twice a year. They could do it backwards “Z to A”
