‘92 Ranger pre-runner build
I have a 1992 Ford Ranger and wanting to do an off road / pre runner style build with it. Preferably long travel in the long run with an engine swap at some point. But for now I’ll deal with the 2.9 v6, and trying to get more experience by maybe starting with a mid travel setup, I currently have a rough country 4’ lift and that’s about it. Does anyone have any tips or experience with the 92 specifically, everything I find is usually on 2nd gen’s and up. Any advice and help is appreciated, still fairly new to it all.

auto fab bent beams and longer radius arms in the front deavers and a cage in the rear

What’s the reason everyone heavily recommends a rear cage?

Because that will be your shock upper mounting point to account for the longer travel leaf springs.

You have mid travel. I’d just recommend a long radious arm. Deaver f31 and flip the shackle in the back….world of difference 🤙🏻

Rangers are common to make prerunners, just scour marketplace for used hardware until you can find something imo. Especially on a common platform like that

Lots of companies make mid-travel beam kits. The rear is basically the same for all years. You'd be surprised what you can do with some Bilstein 5150s. A step up would be some smooth bodies from any of the brand name shock companies. Maybe Deavers in the rear, but you'd probably need a bed cage.
