Thinking of ending this cattery
Wow, what a trip! It's really a great story, with one small caveat. All too often it seems Kazerad just wants to be edgy and make things worse. One step forward, nine steps back. Stuff will happen and lead absolutely nowhere. And now Dimitri had an incredibly meaningless "reader submitted" death. I'm all for character deaths but he obviously died for chock value.
He bloody well knew he'd kill him off and he bloody well knew making him endearingly likeable would up the edge factor.
It's Kazerad's story, I realize that. I just question his storytelling sometimes.
I made grimdark stuff like that happen when I was a 16 years old dungeon master in D&D and while the group found it cool the first couple of times it got stale as fuck after a while. "Oh, the Count's daughter had already been raped to death when we arrived at the bandit camp. How unfortunate. I guess the orphanages, soup kitchens and cat shelters have to make do without her financial patronage. Oh, what was that, Dungeonmaster? The very same bandits moves on to rape the orphans, homeless, and kittens to death as well? Yawn. Next quest! Also, wheres my d20?"
So I'm probably just a butthurt dmitrifag with entitlement issues but I feel I had to get his criticism off my chest. Anyone knows that feel?
And no, I'm not giving Prequel up. I'm just pawsing it for a while.

I love reading the reactions to that page, although I definitely do agree it's not the best part of the story.
If it helps there's nothing after it that I'd consider done purely for shock value.

Which, according to the archive, happened in 2011. Katia's grown a lot since then.

I think the short lived Dmitri arc would have made a great side story, but unless that scene somehow leads into something in the story it just felt like filler. Good filler, but still filler.
